A downtown built for more than passing through. Local businesses, public art, gathering spaces and the people who bring it all to life - it’s the activity at street level that helps create a vibrant, connected downtown Fargo.

Long before construction begins, a project starts with questions. How can this site better serve the neighborhood? What does the community need? How can thoughtful design support the way people live, work and connect? For Avery, those questions helped shape a shared vision for what was once a surface parking lot on NP Avenue. From evaluating the site and studying its surroundings to collaborating with community partners, much of the development process happened before the first visible sign of construction. Today, that vision is taking shape. Every project begins with a plan - and a purpose. Stay tuned for another update on Avery, coming soon!

Fitness has become one of the most sought-after apartment amenities, and it's easy to see why. Whether it's fitting in a workout before work, joining a yoga class, or staying active close to home, convenient wellness spaces make everyday living a little easier. That's why RiverHouse and The Landing feature on-site fitness centers, The Avery will soon include both a fitness center and yoga studio, and Centric residents have access to discounted memberships at Fly Fitness. It's one more way thoughtful amenities help create a better downtown living experience.

The Story Behind the Space | The Black Building
Some of downtown's most iconic buildings were built on optimism. After witnessing the 1929 stock market crash firsthand, George M. Black made a bold decision. Rather than stepping away from investment, he chose to build what would become the Black Building - a symbol of his confidence in Fargo's future. Nearly a century later, the Black Building continues to be a cornerstone of downtown. Through thoughtful restoration, its Art Deco character has been preserved while creating space for today's businesses, residents, and visitors. Some investments don't just shape skylines, they shape communities.

What's next for this corner of Downtown Fargo? Every great development starts with a vision. Proposed plans for this site include a five-story mixed-use building featuring 67 residential units and 78 parking stalls - bringing more opportunities for downtown living and continued investment in our community. As Downtown Fargo continues to grow, projects like this help shape a vibrant, walkable neighborhood for years to come.

One space. Hundreds of memories. On any given week, Broadway Square might be home to a concert, a market, a movie night, or simply a place to meet friends downtown. This August alone, Broadway Square will host: Pride Movie Night, Red River Market, Downtown Lemonade Crawl, and Folkways Night Bazaar. Public spaces like Broadway Square do more than host events - they create opportunities for people to connect, support local businesses, and experience everything downtown Fargo has to offer. That's what placemaking is all about.

Downtown Fargo has a new place to stop, explore, and connect. Featuring artwork by Josh Madson and Robert Vargas, this newest public art installation brings together two unique perspectives on community. The Community Collage by Josh Madson is made up of portraits of local residents, celebrating the people who make Fargo-Moorhead what it is. Right next to it, Robert Vargas' vibrant mural adds another layer of creativity and color, creating a space that's as meaningful as it is eye-catching. Next time you're downtown, stop by, take it in, and experience one of Fargo's newest public art destinations.

The Story Behind the Space
Not every destination starts as one.

Not long ago, Roberts Alley was simply a service corridor behind downtown buildings. It was used for deliveries, dumpsters, and back entrances. It served an important purpose, but it wasn't a place people gathered.

Instead of seeing the alley for what it was, we saw the vision for what it could become.

Through thoughtful redevelopment, Roberts Alley has become one of downtown Fargo's most vibrant public spaces. Today, it's home to local restaurants, outdoor patios, public art, community events, and the everyday moments that make downtown feel alive.

Roberts Alley is a reminder that great places aren't always built from the ground up. Sometimes, they're created by recognizing the potential in spaces that have been there all along.
