Gene's Woodworks

Gene's Woodworks Hand-crafted cedar planters. Dwarf Japanese Juniper bonsai trees in cedar planters. It is made from PVC and eastern red cedar.

Cedar planters for deck and patios: Two styles of patio planters, designed for beauty and for rapid and healthy root development. I build these at my home near Farmerville, LA, from locally grown eastern red cedar. My bonsai trees are small Dwarf Japanese Junipers, planted in small cedar planters. My unique deer feeder is totally operated by squirrels and requires no batteries, timers, or motors.

From 1943, until his death in 1954, my dad owned and operated the H. J. Burnham Cabinet Shop at 1610 N. Trenton Street in Ruston, La. He designed and built this awesome mantel clock, and it sat on our mantel for many years. It is made from oak and black walnut wood, with a Sessions model W electric clock.

Unfortunately, sometime in the past, it fell and was badly broken. Recently, while getting ready to demolish our old house, we found it stored in a closet. I restored it in my woodworking shop at home, and, with a new cord and some WD-40, it is now keeping perfect time.

When I get my router table set up, I'm planning to try to build a replica, in honor of him, my super-hero Daddy. I was 14 when he died, and I know without a doubt that I will see him again.

Annis and I both are vulnerable targets for the virus, so we will continue to stay home for now. We sure do miss the joy and fellowship at the craft shows and markets, but that’s just the way it is. We have lots of pretty Dwarf Japanese Juniper bonsai trees growing, but it’s just too risky to sell, even from home. Keep your chins up, and remember our warranty. If your little tree has “passed on” save your planter and I will replace the tree at no cost, whenever things return to normal. Stay happy and pray for our country!

Ah, the memories! Those good ole days, back in the teens when we had maker’s fairs, festivals and trade days. Happy shoppers, 6 inches (not feet) apart, loaded with cash, and buying everything in sight! Bumper to bumper tent booths, with grinning vendors, stacking up the dough! Ah, those were the days!!!
But, cheer-up. Things will get better. These little Dwarf Japanese Juniper bonsai trees ain’t scared of no virus! They are growing like mad, and we are hoping to start selling again soon. Stay safe.
