Summer Memories

Greetings, Flower Friends!

School is letting out and summer vacation is beginning for many families. This has me thinking back to my own childhood summers.

I have the best memories... like being bored for about a week before settling into a summer groove. We rode our bikes everywhere, spent time with friends, and headed up north to a resort my aunt and uncle owned.

We were a whole pack of cousins, and if one of the cabins wasn't rented, we girls got to stay in it by ourselves. We'd load the cabin with snacks and treats and it felt like pure freedom!

One rainy day we were swimming in the lake when a frantic group of adults came running down to tell us to get out of the water. Apparently, lightning and swimming don't mix. Who knew?

The dock was shaped like a giant loop, and when we were little, we could only swim on the "inside." Growing up meant finally being allowed to swim on the "outside" of the dock. It felt like a major life achievement.

One year we gathered the whole family on that dock for a photo- and we broke it!! Nobody got hurt, but several family members ended up standing knee-deep in water. Looking back, it was probably expensive. At the time, it was hilarious.

And then there was the day my dad and one of my uncles decided to try water skiing directly off the dock. Let's just say the boat moved and they didn't. Looking back, all I think about is how they escaped slivers.

Speaking of summer memories...

If you've stopped by recently and wondered where the bouquets went, I had to work out an absence of the cooler. I solved it and the bouquets are back out and ready to brighten your day.

The bouquets continue to include two true stars of the flower world: peonies and ranunculus. If there were a way to send fragrance through a photo, I would. The peony sweet scent is one of my favorites. There's nothing quite like walking into a room smelling of peonies.

The bouquets will be kept fresh in the cooler all weekend and into next week, and I'll continue harvesting as long as these beauties keep blooming.

Wishing you a beautiful day filled with flowers, sunshine, and maybe a few wonderful summer memories of your own. I hope this includes a few trips out to the farm.

Peace Always,
-Brenda

Fresh Flower Bouquets at the Farm!

Greetings, Flower Friends!

The U-Pick field is looking really good! I'm so excited and can't wait to see it in full bloom!
It still needs another 5–6 weeks before it's ready for visitors. In the meantime, the flowers in my raised beds are blooming away, and I'd like share a little bit of that beauty with you.

Starting tomorrow, I'll have fresh-cut bouquets available in the cooler just outside the Brand Barn. They'll feature some of my favorite flowers of the season- peonies and ranunculus.

I find it really special having flowers in the house. I know I never tire of seeing them on the kitchen table and in the bathroom.

If you'd like a bouquet, you'll find them in the cooler outside the Brand Barn. Stop by whenever it's convenient.

Hopefully these will hold you over until you're able to come to the farm and pick your own. Flower season has begun, and that makes me smile.

I hope they bring a little joy to your home, too.

See you at the farm!

Peace,

💕 Brenda

Greetings Flower Friends!

I’m sitting in the house while the guys are outside tending to the generator because our power is out. Farm life keeps us on our toes sometimes! Thankfully, we have a backup generator for important things like animal comfort and keeping the milk cold in the bulk tank in the milkhouse. But it never fails to be buried under a pile of tossed items...

Our generator isn’t huge, and the farm gets dibs on electricity. So in the house it means the refrigerator and freezers stay running, but things like the AC, lights, fans, water, and the dryer stay off. Years ago, I thought drying one little load of clothes wouldn’t hurt anything… until the generator blew a fuse... I learned a life lesson there.

It was a HOT one working in the flowers today, but I’m almost finished planting. Only sunflowers and dahlias are left, and tomorrow’s the day!

Some of the very first seedlings planted are finally taking off, and it makes me happy. They always go through a bit of transplant shock, and just when I start worrying about them, they decide to grow like crazy. Now if I could just get ahead of the watering… those poor thirsty things!

The first photo is baptisia that I planted last year. It’s really filling out and has such unique blooms. The ranunculus and anemone are beginning to bloom, bachelor buttons, a couple of others, and the peonies will be right behind them. Which means bouquet season is almost here! Hoping I’ll have some fresh bouquets up near the Brand Barn this weekend and I can't wait.

And since it takes me a while to create a post, the power is back on. I'm going to head back to the sink to wash flower pails!

Have a beautiful evening!

The U-Pick Tulip Field is officially picked out!

What a season it’s been. Our very first 2026 U-Pick tulip season has come to an end, and the U-Pick field will be closed on Sunday, May 10.

But before we end this season, I want to wish all the moms a very Happy Mother's Day with this beautiful quote:

"To the world, you are a mother. But to your family, you are the world! -Author unknown.

I want to thank every flower friend who wandered the rows, picked bouquets, took photos, and brought this idea to life. This season taught me so much- what worked, what needs improving, and just how much people enjoy tulips.

It was beautiful, exhausting, exciting, chaotic… and very rewarding.

While tulip U-Pick has wrapped up, the Brand Farms Tulip Festival continues daily from 10am–6pm! Hayrides to the tulip field will continue, with the last ride heading out at 5:00pm. They'll continue to bring folks back to the farm until the field is empty and close at 6:00pm.

Now, on to the next season- planting seedlings for summer flowers! The work continues!!

Thank you for making our very first tulip season so special.

With Peace,
-Brenda

I Have a Silly Side

Greetings Flower Friends!

As you know we've had some cold days and nights. I've become quite wimpy in the cold. I just don't like to be cold anymore.

I've had to cover my new seedlings for the U-Pick summer flowers four times already this spring. And I get a little cranky each time. I know, I know it's early, we're still well within our last frost date and I shouldn't be so hard on Mother Nature- she's not exactly working on my schedule. But I want to get these seedlings in so they can start growing. The earlier I get them in, the sooner we have those vibrant summer blooms! Patience with this, is not my strongest quality.

So, I'll share with you, I have a sily side. Just ask my grandchildren. They're the best to be silly around- no judgment. But they are getting older now- teenagers, so I do have to rein it in a little. I don't want to embarass myself (or them).

But today, silly won...

Each time I carry the bundle of frost cloths out and into the house I feel like a bride carrying her big fluffy dress! To lift my cranky spirit, I decided to have some fun with it. It worked! I hope you're laughing along with me, and if you're judging me, that's the beauty of getting older, we just don't quite care as much anymore.

U-Pick tulips continues. The Brand Farms Tulip Festival continues. This weekend, you're in for a big treat- the apple orchard is also in full bloom! If you need some time to escape life- go into the orchard when it's in full bloom. You'll see Mother Nature at her best and enjoy the peace and solitude.

With Peace (and a little silliness),
-Brenda

U-Pick Tulips Closed- Sunday, May 3rd 🌷
UPDATE: THIS IS THE U-PICK ONLY, NOT BRAND FARMS TULIP FESTIVAL. THE FESTIVAL WILL RUN AS NORMAL. 10am - 6pm. Come on out!

Well… my socks have officially been picked right off- right along with a whole lot of tulips today!

Flower friends, you showed up in the sweetest way, and my U-Pick tulip patch needs to take a break and refresh. So we’ll be closed tomorrow to let the them regenerate.
As I’ve shared before, this is our very first tulip season, and let’s just say… I may have underestimated your love for these flowers!

I’m truly overwhelmed by your kindness, your excitement, and the joy you’ve brought. There’s nothing better than sharing these blooms with people who love them just as much as I do.

I’m hoping to reopen on Monday, but I’ll see how things look tomorrow night. Stay tuned!

Until then, thank you for loving this little U-Pick flower patch so well.

Peace,
-Brenda

Meet The Flower Farmer

This is our very first tulip season here, and I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous planting so many after not having the best luck in the past. But wow… they’ve gone above and beyond anything I hoped for and I’m enjoying every minute.

For those of you who are new here- welcome! I’m Brenda Brand- mom to Farmer Aaron, mom to Allison (husband Joe), and wife to my wonderful husband, John. And Oma to Emma and Henry and the list goes on.

Flowers have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I love everything about them- the colors, the varieties, and the work it takes to grow them. They bring me a sense of comfort and joy that’s hard to describe.

What started as growing a few bouquets to sell (and honestly, giving more away than I sold 😀) slowly grew into a dream. Years ago, I began thinking about a pick-your-own flower field. I knew it would be special… and also knew it would be a lot to take on. After a lot of thought, learning, and family conversations, I decided, at age 62, it was now or never. I retired from my full-time job and became a flower farmer. I'm so thankful for the support and encouragement I've received from family and friends.

And now, here we are… starting second season, and I’m loving it more than I ever imagined. I've realized, whatever season I’m in becomes my favorite.

Looking ahead, I have plans for a future pick-your-own peony patch. You'll see the beginning of it in the strategically placed beds in the parking area. Aaron gets one more year of parking there… then this fall, we plant! Beyond that, who knows- the sky is the limit.

But for now… tulips. 🌷

Thank you to everyone who came out today. I truly enjoyed visiting with you and watching you choose your favorites. The first flush is coming in strong, and they won’t last long. If you’ve been thinking about coming, now is the time!

U-Pick Hours: 9am- 6pm daily
(And truly, I won’t mind if you arrive right at 6. If you need a little later, just message me. I’d be happy for you to have the chance to pick.)

A few quick notes:
- Bring your own vase (I’ll have the water ready)
- The ground is uneven, please wear good shoes
- Children must be supervised
- No pets, please
- $1.50 per stem
- Cash, Venmo, or card accepted
- And most of all- take your time, soak it in, and have fun.

The Tulip Festival is right around the corner, and those plants are stretching taller by the day. Check in at Brand Farms for those details.

I can’t wait to see you this weekend.

Peace,
- Brenda
