Windfall Woodworks

Windfall Woodworks Windfall Woodworks combines wood lathe turned pieces with pyrographics for unique functional pieces such as salad bowls, boxes, vases and candle holders.

Ray also handcrafts tables and stools. This years show will feature these items and more. Working with wood has been a lifetime passion for Ray Ramsdell, a native NW Ohioan, beginning with his experiences in junior high woodshop. After retiring from teaching shop/technology classes at Fayette Local Schools in 2006, Ray Ramsdell turned his focus to creating affordable, beautiful and functional wood

lathe turned pieces. Ray uses native woods such as walnut, white and black ash, maple, and beech. No healthy tree is cut down to provide wood. Ray works the process from beginning to end, creating a blank from the rough log on the band saw. The blank is then attached to the wood lathe and turned into shape. Each piece is sanded and coated with three or more coats of polyurethane finish. These beautiful, functional pieces are suitable for use in your home as fruit bowls, vases, candleholders, centerpieces, trinket holders, and more. New additions include rolling pins and cutting boards. Kathy Taylor Ramsdell "Kate" joined her husband after retiring from 30 years in education in 2010. Kathy aka Kate decided to take up pyrographics or the art of woodburning several Christmases ago. Ray bought her the tools and she began burning designs on wooden bangles which Ray turns on the lathe. After taking a drawing class and a woodburning class, she decided to try her hand on other surfaces such as lids on boxes that Ray had turned. She adds color to many of her designs with colored pencils or markers. Having loved art all her life, she relishes this opportunity to be creative and share her work with others. In addition, Kate does much of the finish work on the turned pieces.

Just finished adding color to the Four Seasons Bowl. It will be available at our November open house. Stay tuned.
