One of the most overlooked causes of HVAC system failure is a restricted or neglected air filter. In real field diagnostics, airflow restriction is one of the leading contributors to evaporator coil freezing, blower motor overheating, and system efficiency loss.
When airflow is reduced, the evaporator coil can drop below freezing and ice over, causing a complete loss of heat transfer. At the same time, the blower motor operates under higher static pressure, increasing amperage draw and long-term thermal stress on the motor windings.
Over time, this condition can lead to premature blower motor failure, capacitor stress, and in some cases compressor strain due to abnormal operating pressures.
There is no universal replacement schedule for filters. Replacement frequency depends on system runtime, indoor air quality, pets, occupancy, and dust load. Many homes require changes every 30–60 days, while others vary significantly.
Proper HVAC maintenance is based on airflow conditions—not fixed timelines.
