This huge tree clearing job is slowly coming to an end. So much work. Think we bit off a little than we could chew for a small business. Even the wife and client's dog wanted to help! Lol
We have approximately 10 cords of wood, all hickory and oak. NO PINE. It should be dried and ready come fall. So if you want to purchase some wood, let us know. Currently wood is anywhere between $250 for a face cord to $400 for a full cord. What's the difference?
A typical cord of wood is a pile 4 feet tall, 8 feet long, and 4 feet deep, meaning each piece of wood is about 4 feet long. This is the confusion people experience. Who buys wood 4 feet long? This is where a face cord comes in.
A face cord of wood is the same width, length, but the wood is typically anywhere between 12 to 20 inches long pieces of wood, used for most fireplaces.
As found on the internet:
"Some wood dealers try to sell firewood from a pick-up truck. Consumers should be on their guard, because a pick-up cannot hold a cord of firewood. An 8-foot truck bed can hold one-half of a cord while a 6-foot bed can barely hold one-third of a cord."
So although the truck bed may be 8 feet long, the stack should be 4 feet tall. If you make two stacks in the bed, then it's possible. Either way, once downloaded, have a premeasured location for the wood to make sure you're getting a face cord. It's seldom people buy a true cord since the pile of wood ought to measure 4 feet deep. Even 2 face cords will come up short of a true cord unless each piece is about 24" long to add up to the 48" (4 feet) that a true cord is in depth.
