Here's a tip that makes a real difference: aerate your lawn in the fall, not spring.
Clay-heavy soil (common around Fayetteville) compacts over summer from foot traffic and heat. Fall aeration breaks that up right when your grass roots are naturally growing deeper, storing energy for winter. You'll see thicker turf and fewer bare spots come spring.
Spring aeration can work, but you're competing with w**d germination and active growth, so the timing isn't as forgiving.
