I'm posting this to start a discussion and raising an issue a lot of people don't even know exists.
There are alot of things think about when you are looking to invest in an underground shelter or bunker. One other thing that we likely overlook is a slow and silent killer called Radon gas.
This is natural accuring radioactive gas that leaches through the ground and concrete, then can accumulate to dangerous levels in basements or underground structures. Some areas of the US have more Radon present than others you can get an idea from several sources online. Every year thousands of people die of lunge cancer due to Radon exposure
There are many ways to mitigate your exposure, like ventilation and detectors but these will add complexity, cost and need to be consistently monitored. The great benefit of using a steel structure for your shelter or bunker is they are welded and sealed to keep out all harmful chemicals and gasses, including Radon.
