Escalators can be very dangerous. Underneath the steps is a bunch of rollers and gears. Please make sure your shoe laces are tied and no loose strings are dragging before stepping onto an escalator. Also, be especially careful if wearing Crocs because the material they are made of can get easily pulled into the sides/skirt of escalators. And if you use a walker or are pushing a baby stroller, you must take the elevator.

How to ride safely on escalators? What would happen if your shoelace or clothes got caught in an escalator? Are there any escalator safety tips? Imagine this...

We share with you today some very sad news. One of our incredible employees, Edward Balsat, has passed away unexpectedly. Ed was an incredibly kind, thoughtful, and intelligent person. He joined us here at Superior Elevator Inspections in 2017 and we could not have asked for a better person to join our ranks. For the past 5+ years we have had the pleasure of getting to know Ed and we are honored that we were able to call him a friend. Ed was a great inspector and an even better person. We ask that you keep Ed and his family in your thoughts and prayers as his family grieves this sudden and unexpected loss.

To Ed – Thank you for all that you contributed and for being an incredible light in a world full of darkness. We are so lucky to have been able to know you and we will miss you greatly. May God greet you with open arms into the Kingdom of Heaven.

With vacation homes being rented at this time of year, be careful about those with residential elevators. Ask whether the elevator has had a recent inspection when considering a rental that lists an elevator as an amenity. Inspections of residential elevators are not required by most states having jurisdiction over conveyance equipment. Some states and municipalities may require an inspection at the time of original installation, however, this may be decades prior to the house you may be seeking to rent.

Below is a safety warning we pulled from an article in “Elevator World”.

Earlier this month, a boy from Ohio died after he became trapped between an elevator car and the elevator shaft inside a vacation rental home.
