It is almost JULY! Happy early 4th of July! The weather northeast Florida continues to be hot and dry. However, the National Weather Service predicts above average precipitation for June through August. Here is a tip for homeowners in northeast Florida to maintain your lawn in the hottest part of the summer.

Mow your lawns at the highest recommended height for your grass. St. Augustine grass (popular) can be mowed at 4 inches (dwarf types to 2 ½ inches), Zoysia grass is mowed to 2 inches, and Bahia grass to 4 inches. The correct height helps shade the runners while helping to conserve moisture by slowing evaporation. Also, make sure your mower blade is kept sharp so it cuts the grass blades cleanly, and the grass will heal quickly.

We are hiring a part-time position at $15.00 an hour for the first 3 months (training period) then a performance review at 3 months, 6 months and every 6 months after. Based on your performance you can make up to $17.00 an hour in this position.

Description of Duties:
A Lawn Care Worker must be able to operate a variety of equipment and have a working knowledge of horticultural practices (edging, weed-eating and mowing). The ideal candidate has some experienced in lawn maintenance and someone who can work with minimal supervision. A Lawn Care Worker must be able to assist in directing the activities and work as a team.

Responsibilities:
• Assists the Lawn Care Supervisor in interacting with clients by way of introductions at the beginning of a job, answering questions and responding to client requests.
• Assists the Lawn Care Supervisor in planning and organizing the jobs, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available.
• Also ensures that job is completed in the most time-efficient manner.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment.
• Briefs the Lawn Care Supervisor and makes recommendations on job status, personnel issues, or client concerns.
• Ability to learn and operate Lawn Care Software.

Benefits:
• Currently no benefits for part time employees.

Qualifications:
• Valid Driver's License required
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Education:
• High school diploma or GED preferred

Experience:
• No previous experience required.

Competencies:
• Ability to have good conversations with clients.
• Must be able to read and write in English language
• Report to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned
• Ability to operate a truck and trailer combination proficiently

Have a Pet and Yellow or Dead Spots in your lawn?
Pets can play favorites in where they like to use the bathroom on your lawn. Urine spots are round patches about four to eight inches in diameter with dead grass in the middle, encircled by dark green grass. Often caused by animal urine, they’re most apparent in the early spring when dormant grass first begins to turn green again. Don’t replant grass; it won’t come back on its own. But first you have to dilute or remove the caustic urine from the soil. One method is to thoroughly soak the area with lots of water and seed it. Another method is to remove and plug that area.

Do you have shady areas where the grass won’t grow? Don’t Give Up!
Growing grass under shade trees isn’t easy, but one key to success is choosing the right shade grass species and planting method. For our region here in NE Florida we have a lot of shade trees and with that comes bare spots. Most grass need 6 hours of sun to grow successfully but Palmetto St. Augustine will grow with about four hours of direct sunlight per day with filtered sunlight throughout the rest of the day. There are many other shade tolerant grasses out there give us a call if you are having issues with your grass growing in the shade.
