🇺🇸❤️ Happy Labor Day from our family to yours! ❤️🇺🇸

This picture was taken on the way to tge Butler House this weekend — and honestly, it feels pretty fitting for Labor Day. 🛠️❤️

Today we’re taking a moment to be thankful for the freedom and blessings we have in this country. We’re so grateful to live in a place where we have the freedom to work hard, chase our dreams, provide for our families, and choose the work we love.

There’s something pretty special about being able to build something with your own two hands and know that your hard work is helping build a better future for your family. 🛠️🇺🇸

We’re thankful for every opportunity, every customer who supports our small business, and every person who works hard to keep this country going.

God bless our families, our workers, and this beautiful country we’re blessed to call home. 🇺🇸🙏

Have a safe and happy Labor Day! ❤️🤍💙

BEFORE CAMM… THERE WAS A STORY. 🏛️

Before we start showing you the tile work happening throughout the Butler House, we thought we'd take a step back and share a little of the story behind this incredible St. Louis property.

The Butler House was built in 1892 on West Pine Boulevard in the Central West End for James G. Butler, a Civil War veteran who later became well established in St. Louis' to***co industry.

At the time, St. Louis was one of the country's major to***co-producing cities, and Butler used the fortune he built to create what was considered one of the most extravagant homes on the street.

Designed by architect Albert Knell, the home was built in the Queen Anne style and featured the incredible architectural details that still make it so unique today — including its large rounded tower and detached turret.

A small addition was made around the time of the 1904 World's Fair, and in 1907, the carriage house was added behind the mansion.

Over the decades, the property has had several different chapters.
It was purchased by Grace Cain in 1919, later became a rooming house for a period of time, and in 1956 was purchased by the International Institute, which used the property as offices for an organization that assisted immigrants and refugees relocating to St. Louis.

Even as the Central West End changed dramatically around it, including the construction of high-rise apartments nearby during the 1960s and 1970s, the Butler House survived intact.

And today, more than 130 years after it was built, many of its original architectural details are still here.
That history is one of the things that makes this renovation so special.
This isn't simply an old house being remodeled.

It's a piece of St. Louis history entering a new chapter.

And we're pretty lucky that CAMM Flooring & Renovations gets to be a small part of that chapter. 🔨

Tomorrow, we're taking you inside.
Three floors.

Three very different personalities.
And a few details we couldn't wait to show you. 👀

Stay tuned for Day 3 of the Butler House project.

🏛️ A NEW CAMM PROJECT — AND THIS ONE HAS A STORY.

We are excited to officially introduce you to CAMM Flooring & Renovations' newest project: the Butler House in St. Louis' historic Central West End.

And when we say this one is a BIG project… we mean it. 😳

The Butler House was built in 1892 in the Queen Anne style and is filled with more than a century of history and architectural character. Originally built for James G. Butler, a Civil War veteran who later became established in St. Louis' to***co industry, the home was once one of the most extravagant residences on West Pine Boulevard.

Today, this incredible property is beginning a whole new chapter.
The main house is approximately 12,750 square feet, spans multiple levels, and even has its own elevator. And behind the main house sits the two-story carriage house, which is being renovated as part of the same massive project.

CAMM has been brought in to handle a substantial amount of the tile work throughout both properties, including bathrooms and kitchen backsplashes, along with completing and correcting portions of work that had already been started before Chris came onto the project.

And that's where this project is going to get interesting.

Renovation isn't always about walking into a blank room and starting from scratch. Sometimes you walk into an existing project, figure out what was done, determine what needs to be corrected, and then build from there.
That's exactly what Chris is doing here.

Over the next four weeks, we're going to take you along for the journey.

We'll show you the history and character of the Butler House, the different personalities of each floor, the carriage house, the challenges that come with working in a historic property, the work happening behind the scenes, and of course… the tile. 🔨

You'll see the good, the messy, the complicated, the progress, and eventually the finished product.

Because we don't just want to show you the after.
We want you to see the story of how we got there.

Welcome to the Butler House. 🏛️

Follow along with CAMM Flooring & Renovations as we bring you along on this project from beginning to end.

And if you wouldn't mind continuing to share our posts, we'd be incredibly grateful.🙏

You never know who might be scrolling through your Facebook feed looking for someone to install a new floor, remodel a bathroom, build a beautiful shower or tackle their next renovation project.

One share could put CAMM in front of the person we've been trying to reach.

So from our family to yours…

Thank you for being here. Thank you for supporting CAMM. And thank you for helping us build something we're incredibly proud of. 🖤

🧱 Tile Isn’t Just Tile!

At first glance, you might think choosing tile is simply about finding a color and style you love.

But there’s a LOT more that goes into it! 👀

Different tile sizes, shapes, materials and patterns can completely change the installation process.

🔹 Large-format tile — requires careful handling, planning and a properly prepared surface.

🔹 Mosaic tile — more pieces means more cuts, more layout and more time.

🔹 Herringbone & specialty patterns — beautiful, but they require precise planning and installation to keep everything lined up.

🔹 Hexagons & unique shapes — these can create an amazing look, but they also require extra attention to layout and cuts.

🔹 Natural stone & specialty materials — may require specific installation methods and additional care.

And then there are all the little details that make a project truly custom — niches, borders, accent walls, transitions and intricate cuts.

That's why there isn't a simple “price per square foot” that works for every tile project.

At CAMM Flooring & Renovations, we look at the entire project — the space, the tile, the layout, the preparation and the details — to provide a bid that's specific to your project.

Because the tile you choose doesn't just determine how your space looks… it can also determine how it needs to be installed.

🚿 Why Waterproofing Matters — Even Though You’ll Never See It

When you look at a beautiful finished shower, it’s easy to focus on the tile, grout, fixtures and design.

But one of the most important parts of a shower is something you’ll never see once the job is finished.

👉 The waterproofing system.

Tile and grout create a beautiful finished surface, but they aren't the only line of defense against moisture. Proper waterproofing helps protect the walls and structure behind your tile from water getting where it shouldn't.

That means before the pretty tile goes up, the work underneath matters.

✔️ Proper surface preparation
✔️ Correct waterproofing materials
✔️ Properly sealed seams and penetrations
✔️ Following the manufacturer's installation requirements
✔️ Careful attention to every detail before the tile is installed

Because once that beautiful tile is finished, you don't want to find out there was a problem underneath it.

At CAMM Flooring & Renovations, we believe the quality of a project starts before the first tile is ever installed.

Swipe through some of our behind-the-scenes photos to see a little of what goes into the work you don't normally get to see. 👀

The finished shower may be what you see… but the preparation underneath is what helps make it last.

What Can Your Flooring Budget Actually Get You? 👀

One of the most common questions we get is:

“How much does a tile project cost?”

And the honest answer is… it depends! 😉

Two projects can look similar at first glance but have VERY different installation costs depending on the size, layout, tile selection, prep work and level of detail involved.

Things that can affect the cost of a tile installation include:

🔹 Size of the space — A small bathroom and a large open floor require very different amounts of labor and material.

🔹 Tile size & shape — Large-format tile, small mosaics, hexagons, herringbone and other specialty shapes can require additional time and precision.

🔹 Layout & pattern — Straight-lay is very different from intricate patterns, detailed borders or custom layouts.

🔹 Prep work — Proper preparation of the surface is one of the most important parts of a quality installation. Uneven or damaged surfaces may require additional preparation before the beautiful tile can even go down.

🔹 Design details — Niches, accent walls, intricate cuts, transitions, decorative tile and other custom details can all add labor.

🔹 Materials — Tile, setting materials, grout, waterproofing products, trim and other materials all factor into the overall project.

That's why at CAMM Flooring & Renovations, we don't believe in throwing out a “one-size-fits-all” price.

We come out, look at the space, talk through what you're wanting to accomplish, take measurements and provide a detailed bid based on YOUR project.

Swipe through some of the different tile projects we've worked on and you'll see just how much the size, layout and design can change from one project to the next. 👀
