Quarterly vs One-Time Treatments: Which One Actually Makes Sense for Your Home

We get this question a lot. "Do I really need quarterly service, or can I just call you when I see something?" Here's an honest breakdown.

One-time treatments work well for isolated, identifiable problems. If you have a single wasp nest, a mouse that got inside through an open door, or a one-off ant trail, a targeted treatment can resolve it completely. You don't need an ongoing plan for every situation.

Quarterly service makes sense when any of the following apply. Your home has a history of recurring pest problems. You live in a wooded or high-pest-pressure area. You have a crawlspace, older foundation, or known entry points that are difficult to seal permanently. You want prevention rather than reaction.

Here's what quarterly service actually does. Each visit includes a full perimeter treatment, inspection, and targeted interior treatment as needed. The products we apply break down over time that's by design for environmental safety. Quarterly visits ensure continuous protection without gaps.

The math usually favors quarterly for homeowners who would otherwise call two or more times per year for individual issues. A quarterly plan costs less per visit than emergency service calls and provides uninterrupted coverage.

We don't push quarterly plans on homeowners who don't need them. If your situation is genuinely a one-time problem, we'll tell you. If you'd benefit from ongoing service, we'll explain why.

Call 314-967-BUGS (2847) and we'll give you an honest recommendation based on your specific home.

What Happens During a Roberts Pest Control Service Visit

Transparency matters. When you schedule a service with Roberts Pest Control, you should know exactly what to expect. Here's what a typical visit looks like.

We start with an inspection. Every visit begins with a walkthrough not a quick glance, but a systematic check of entry points, conducive conditions, and pest evidence. We look at your foundation, eaves, windows, doors, garage, and any interior areas you've flagged. If it's a termite inspection, we're checking crawlspaces, sill plates, and accessible wood.

Next, we discuss findings. If we find evidence of pest activity or conditions that invite problems, we explain what we found, where we found it, and what it means. No jargon. No scare tactics.

Then we treat. Our technicians select products based on the specific pests and conditions present not a one-size-fits-all spray. Different pests require different chemistries, different application methods, and different placement strategies. We treat the exterior perimeter, entry points, and targeted interior areas as needed.

Before we leave, we document everything. You'll know exactly what was applied, where it was applied, and what to expect over the coming weeks.

Finally, we follow up. If you're on a quarterly or annual plan, we return on schedule to monitor and re-treat as needed. If a problem comes back between visits, we come back at no additional charge.

No contracts required. No hidden fees. Just honest, professional pest management.

We are Roberts Pest Control, and we have been protecting St. Louis area homes from the start. Here is a little about who we are.

We are family-owned and operated out of Festus, Missouri. We serve St. Louis County, Jefferson County, St. Francois County, and St. Charles County. From Festus to Hillsboro to Farmington to O'Fallon we are your neighbors, not some out-of-state franchise.

Every home we treat, we treat like our own. We use the same products we would use in our own homes, around our own kids and our own pets. That is not a marketing line. That is how we make every treatment decision.

We do not sell you what you do not need. We show you what your home needs, explain your options, and let you decide. No high-pressure sales. No scare tactics. Just honest information from people who know pests and know this area.

Our tagline says it all: Common Sense Solutions That Fit Your Family's Needs. That means the right treatment, at the right time, at the right price. Nothing more, nothing less.

The products on store shelves and the products in our truck are not even in the same league. Here is the real difference.

Store-bought sprays are mostly pyrethroids essentially the same chemistry that has been around since the 1970s. They are repellent, which means pests detect them and scatter deeper into walls, voids, and other hiding places. Worse, decades of overuse have created widespread resistance in many pest species.

Professional products use non-repellent chemistries like fipronil, indoxacarb, dinotefuran, and chlorfenapyr. Pests cannot detect them. They walk through treated areas, pick up the product, and carry it back to the colony. This transfer effect is how you eliminate the source, not just the scouts.

Store-bought foggers are one of the worst things you can buy. They drive pests into walls and spread contamination across surfaces. As Truman's Scientific Guide puts it, deposits of repellent insecticides actually reduce cockroach feeding on bait meaning foggers can undermine professional treatment.

Professional gel baits are placed precisely in harborage areas and consumed by the target pest. Professional IGRs break the reproductive cycle so populations collapse over time. No broadcast application. No scatter. No resistance issues.

We carry products from four or more different IRAC mode of action groups. Store shelves carry one. There is a reason professionals exist.

A can of bug spray costs eight dollars. A professional pest control visit costs more. Here is what that difference actually buys you.

Missouri requires pest control operators to pass state certification exams before they can treat a single home. Our technicians complete ongoing continuing education every year to stay current on products, techniques, and regulations.

We carry full liability insurance. If anything goes wrong during a treatment, you are protected. That can of spray from the store does not come with a policy.

More importantly, we know which products work on which pests, at what application rates, and under what conditions. We know which IRAC mode of action groups to rotate so pests do not develop resistance to the products we use. We understand pest biology their life cycles, behaviors, harborage preferences, and vulnerabilities.

That knowledge is the difference between solving a problem and chasing it around your house for months. Between one targeted treatment and a dozen failed attempts with store-bought cans.

The most expensive pest control is the cheap treatment that does not work. You end up spending more money, more time, and dealing with more frustration than if you had called a professional from the start.

Invest in expertise. It costs less than failure. Call Roberts Pest Control at 314-967-BUGS (2847) or chat us at https://robertspest.com

We do not just spray your house and leave. That is not how modern pest control works, and it is not how we operate.

IPM stands for Integrated Pest Management. It is the foundation of everything we do at Roberts Pest Control. It means we inspect first, identify the pest and its conditions, treat targeted areas, monitor results, and follow up.

The goal is to use the least amount of product to achieve the best result. Products are applied only where pests actually live and travel cracks, crevices, entry points. Not broadcast across your baseboards. Not fogged into the air. Not spray-and-pray.

We address root causes. Is there a moisture problem attracting pests? A gap under a door letting them in? Vegetation touching the house giving them a bridge? We deal with that first. Exclusion, sanitation, habitat modification these come before any chemical application.

Then we treat. Then we monitor. Then we follow up to make sure the treatment worked and the conditions have not changed.

This is science, not guesswork. It is how pest management is taught, studied, and practiced by professionals who take this work seriously.

As the season changes and temperatures continue to rise, spider activity indoors becomes more predictable.

What may feel like a sudden increase is often part of a natural shift in behavior, especially for species like the brown recluse.

This week, we covered where they tend to hide, how to identify them, and why they move indoors during this time of year. These patterns are not uncommon, they are part of what we consistently see across Missouri homes during late spring.

The challenge is that their behavior makes them easy to overlook. Because they prefer quiet, undisturbed areas, early signs are often missed until activity becomes more noticeable.

Staying aware of these patterns and checking common hiding areas can make a significant difference in avoiding unwanted encounters.

If something doesn’t seem right, it’s always better to check early. 314-967-BUGS (2847).
