🔹During heavy rain draining water from a pool is a common question we receive.

🔹Here at 10-8, our personal opinion is, draining is not recommended. We have a salt pool, + have only drained it a couple inches prior to a major hurricane. We also feel is is 😊personal preference. Customers are very familiar with their pools, and know what works best for them.

🔹Pool draining education:
(Generally safe for all pools, here are things to consider)

⚠️Most pools have a functional Decko Drain (if this is clogged, run a hose to remove debris)
The DD will catch and release overflow.

⚠️Pump + Filtration System: If the water level drops below the skimmer opening, the pump can suck in air, lose prime, and possibly ⛔️burn out if left running.

⚠️Chemical Balance: Lowering water dilutes less of the old water, so you may need to re-test and adjust chemicals afterward. ➡️With weekly pool service, something to consider is all chemiclas we have added are being drained + also could result in alage which can become coslty.

⚠️Exposed Plaster (gunite pools): Not really an issue with just a couple of inches, but repeated draining that exposes steps or shallow areas could eventually cause discoloration.

It can🆘 happen and here is how.
We walked out onto the pool deck this morning and were met with a quarter sized glaring stain in the bottom of the sun-shelf.
We removed the piece of debris causing the stain and found it to be a tiny piece of wood chip or bark.
Being aware of what surrounds a pool deck is pertinent to the health of the interior finish, including grout line as well as the beauty strip. Mulch, tree debris, dirt wash out from potted plants, plant matter, etc. can and will cause staining which is often irreversible. Please use caution when making decorative decisions around the pool.
Ours was likely from our furry friend 🐾 and his chewing habits~

Helpful tips of the week! As a homeowner I stumbled upon this by accident!
We clean our pool weekly, but began having a little mold buildup in the grout area. I did a little partnering with my pool guy as we know grout clean is an extra service call.
After realizing where the majority of the mold was; I learned it was near our basketball hoop + potted plants.
These areas collect more dirt naturally. 📌🎤SOLUTION I took my hose, climbed into the pool and also stood along the edge and SPRAYED underneath the BEAUTY BAND👀you would not believe the dirt trapped under this!!
Not only was this an easy fix as a homeowner; but a tip for other pool owners. I felt highly encouraged NOT to blame the pool company for this as cleaning under a band is not part of service. Partnering with your pool service is highly encouraged 😊
