Structure in the winter garden

Your garden can continue to give you visual pleasure during the winter if you plan your beds to include all-season structure. This can include garden ornamentation, such as a bird house, bird bath, sculpture, trellis or armillary as well as the structure of live plants. Plants that will provide interest in winter can be either evergreen or deciduous. Even bare branches of shrubs or small trees can be interesting when covered with snow, and some have berries, or colored stems.
Birds also contribute to a lovely winter view and are attracted to gardens with shrubs that provide shelter in bad weather. Seed heads from perennials, and ornamental grasses also create interest and add some color to the winter landscape.
