🌩️ There's a good chance of storms rolling through the Downriver area tonight.

I know we're all still a little traumatized after the last round of storms, damage, and extended power outages, but we all know the drill by now.

✔️ Charge your phones and power banks.
✔️ Have flashlights ready and fuel up generators (remember to use generators outdoors only).
✔️ Secure or bring in loose outdoor furniture and decorations.
✔️ Keep a few days' worth of medications and essentials handy.
✔️ Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need extra help.

If you encounter downed power lines, stay far away and report them to your electric utility immediately. If there's an immediate danger to life or property, call 911.

If trees or large limbs come down during or after the storm and you need cleanup or emergency tree work, The Working Man Tree Service will be on standby and ready to help as soon as it's safe for crews to get to work.

Hopefully this ends up being nothing more than some much-needed rain, but it never hurts to be prepared. Stay safe, everyone, and let's hope the lights stay on this time! 💙

As some of our customers already know, our fearless leader, Scott, is currently on medical leave. While we miss having him out in the field, we couldn't be more proud of the crew that's been keeping things running in the meantime.

Our lead climber and the rest of the team have stepped up in a big way—continuing to provide the safe, professional, and high-quality work our customers expect every day. It's been incredible to watch everyone pull together, support one another, and keep taking pride in every job.

A huge thank you to this amazing crew. We appreciate everything you do, and we're lucky to have each and every one of you.

A lot of people have been asking why the smoke smells less like a campfire and more like burnt rubber or tires.

The answer is partly in the trees that are burning. Many wildfire areas contain large amounts of conifers like pine, spruce, and fir. These trees contain natural resins and oils (terpenes) that give evergreens their distinct smell. When those compounds burn, they become part of a much more complex smoke mixture than the dry seasoned wood you’d normally burn in a backyard fire.

Wildfire smoke isn’t just “burning wood.” It’s a mixture of gases, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and tiny particles that can travel long distances. Some of those compounds are responsible for the sharper, chemical, or “burnt plastic/rubber” odors people notice during heavy smoke events.

That smell is a reminder that what we’re breathing isn’t just a campfire smell drifting through the air. It’s smoke containing fine particles and gases that can irritate your eyes, throat, and lungs. If you don’t need to be outside, it’s a good day to limit exposure and keep an eye on air quality conditions.

Stay safe out there.
