Sandy soil and heavy rain can shift pH more than most homeowners realize, making it harder for trees to absorb nutrients. The result: yellowing leaves, slow growth, or a plant that just isn't thriving.

A simple soil test tells us what's really going on, and how to fix it.

Curious what your soil is telling you? Our plant health care team can help.

Most tree failures during summer storms are predictable when structural defects are present.

Primary risk indicators include:
> Co-dominant stems with tight or included bark
> Heavy lateral limbs with long horizontal reach
> Deadwood in upper canopy that increases wind resistance

These are not random failures. They are load distribution problems that worsen over time as the tree matures and gains weight.

Targeted structural pruning can reduce wind sail, redistribute weight, and lower failure risk without removing the entire tree.

If a tree has multiple stems or large overextended limbs, it is worth evaluating before peak storm activity.

Call (904) 269-4069 to schedule a structural risk assessment.

Not all summer leaf drop is disease. In many cases, we are seeing heat and moisture stress that gets mistaken for infection.

Key indicators:
> Wilting that worsens in afternoon heat but improves overnight
> Leaf drop starting on outer canopy first
> No consistent pattern of spotting, lesions, or fungal growth

When it is disease, symptoms tend to progress in a more uniform and accelerating pattern regardless of temperature swings.

In hot July conditions, irrigation timing, soil compaction, and root zone exposure are often the real drivers behind decline.

An ISA-certified arborist can determine whether the issue is physiological stress or a true pathogen concern before unnecessary removal or treatment decisions are made.

Call (904) 269-4069 to schedule a tree health assessment.

Laurel wilt is a fast-spreading tree disease caused by a fungus carried by the invasive redbay ambrosia beetle. Once inside a tree, the fungus blocks the flow of water, causing rapid wilting and, ultimately, tree death.

In Florida, laurel wilt primarily affects trees in the laurel family, including redbay, swamp bay, avocado, and sassafras.

Watch for these three common signs:
> Sudden wilting and browning leaves that remain attached to the tree
> Dark streaking or staining beneath the bark
> Rapid tree decline over the course of weeks to months

While there is no cure for infected trees, early detection is key. An ISA-certified arborist can identify symptoms, recommend preventative treatments when appropriate, and safely remove infected trees to help protect your surrounding landscape.
