Building the talent pipeline right here in our backyard! 🏗️ As we wrap up our summer program with a Lunch & Learn, we’re proud to highlight the incredible next-generation talent coming out of our community —including students from Mott Community College YouthBuild program, the Genesee Career Institute (GCI), and local high school students exploring the construction industry.

Mentoring these dedicated young adults alongside our tenured industry professionals has been a true highlight of the season. As our summer team wraps up their time with us, they are preparing to take their next big steps—whether that means heading off to college, starting registered apprenticeships, or pursuing trade certifications.

As part of our ongoing commitment to local growth, we are also proud to drive workforce development through our liftFLINT initiative, opening doors and building career pathways for the next generation of professionals right here in Genesee County.

We absolutely love this initiative and what it is doing for young people in our community! Through the YouthBuild program at Mott Community College, we have had the opportunity to welcome so many amazing individuals to our team who are eager to learn, grow, and build a career in the construction industry. It has been incredible to watch their confidence and skills develop, and we are proud to have been a small part of their journey. Programs like this are so important in creating opportunities and building the next generation of skilled workers. We are grateful to be a part of it! 🦺

We’re proud to partner with Communities First, Inc. on the revitalization of the historic Masonic Temple in downtown Flint. With construction well underway, we’re excited to see this project continue to take shape and bring new life to an important piece of our community’s history. We’re honored to be part of a project that will help preserve Flint’s past while building toward a stronger future. We can’t wait to see the finished transformation!

This week, the Lurvey Construction team was proud to celebrate an exciting milestone for one of our valued team members, Nairobi Burkett Jr., as he begins the next chapter of his career by joining the Operating Engineers Local 324.

Nairobi came to Lurvey Construction through the YouthBuild Program at Mott Community College and started with our team on March 10, 2025. He joined the Laborers Local 1075 on April 25, 2025, and has now taken the next step toward achieving his goal of becoming an Operator.

Since joining our team, Nairobi has consistently demonstrated outstanding character, professionalism, and a strong work ethic. He is dependable, respectful, takes pride in the quality of his work, and approaches every job with determination and a positive attitude. We are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and excited to see him continue to grow in his career.

Our partnership with YouthBuild has been successful in so many ways, and watching individuals like Nairobi achieve their goals is one of the most rewarding parts of that partnership. Congratulations, Nairobi—we wish you continued success in this exciting new chapter!

Last week, we celebrated the official ribbon cutting of Orchard Grove & Orchard Manor Apartments.

This milestone marks the opening of 74 new mixed-income homes in Flint, providing residents with safe, quality, and affordable housing while helping strengthen the community for years to come. Lurvey Construction is honored to be apart of it!!
