• Assembles, installs, repairs, tests and maintains underground utility systems and related equipment, including but not limited to natural gas distribution installations, electric , water and communication underground installations to assure safe, continuous service to customers. Responds to emergency situations to maintain public and personal safety.
• Operates equipment/tools used in the protection, repair, replacement and installation of new gas mains and services, electrical conduit installation, communication conduit installations, including preparation and restoration of the construction site for completion of assigned projects.
• Performs routine operator maintenance on all equipment/tools used in and associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair and testing of utility installations. system to assure safe, efficient performance and minimizing down time.
• Follows the Operations Manual procedures and is in compliance with all company codes and those of local, state and federal agencies.
• Completes record-keeping associated with construction and maintenance operations in a timely manner to ensure an up to date and accurate information system is maintained.
• Performs other related tasks including, but not limited to, line locating, construction work, transporting equipment, operating equipment and fleet. perform facilities maintenance including mowing, asphalt and concrete repairs and vegetation stabilization.
• Participates in external and internal training, both field and classroom, to increase job knowledge and competency. Advises and assists other employees on-the-job to provide technical, safety and procedural knowledge.
• Maintains a professional working relationship with internal and external customers.
• Maintains a professional, respectful and safe work environment.
• Welds on gas distribution system to install, repair, abandon and relocate mains, services, This includes the preparation and layout of work needed prior to welding.
• Cuts, bevels and trims metals and uses flame cutting torches and approved power tools (if applicable).
• Makes welded repairs on vehicles and equipment to extend the working life and/or make changes and modifications (if applicable).
