This might be the coolest sports court we’ve ever built… 👀

At our Fun House project we wanted the court to feel larger than life.

So we hired an insanely talented mural artist team to paint the client’s favorite cartoon characters across the walls.

What started as blank drywall turned into something straight out of a cartoon universe.

Custom homes should be fun. Mission accomplished. 🎨🏀

Which character would you add to your court?

👇 Drop it in the comments.

Despite the cold and snowy weather, we were able to get our footings inspected and poured today at our custom build in Harding Township. Next we’ll strip the formwork, spread some crushed stone and install the footing drains. Once that’s done we can begin erecting the wall panels and see this home take shape!

Some people think building a home is easy but they don’t realize some of the challenges involved. This picture represents a perfect example of a tight lot with tough soil conditions. With not enough room on the sides to get a machine by, we had to leave a stockpile of dirt big enough in the front yard to backfill and get us to the other stockpile in the rear yard. We also draped plastic over the sides of the excavated hole to help stabilize the dirt during any rain events until we can backfill and covered our stockpiles to keep them as dry as possible.

Last night was the Awards of Excellence for the Metro Builders and Contractor’s Association of New Jersey. After a tough and challenging building year, I’m proud to say that Balassone Builders took home 4 awards.
Best single family custom home $1mil-$2mil
Best specialty internal feature room
Best use of social media
Best company logo
While there’s too many to name, I wanted to thank all our architects, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors who played a key role in us achieving these awards. Thank you! Also, congratulations to all the other award winners.
Lastly, special shout out to Joe for getting me started on Instagram a few years back which ultimately helped us in winning our “Best use of social media” award this evening.

Drilling a water well is part luck and part skill. You never know how far down you’ll have to go in order to achieve the adequate flow rate. Pending you even hit water… To figure out the maximum demand needed, we assumed the worst case scenario. Everyone taking a shower at the same time, with the washer machines going, dishwashers on, irrigation running, toilets flushing, etc… then added up the GPM for each one.
After drilling 300’ we hit enough water volume to supply the house but not the irrigation system. Based off the recommendation from the driller and what they saw coming up over the last 50’, we decided to go an addition 100’ deeper to 400’. That is where we hit the ideal GPM flow rate that will suffice for this home and irrigation system without any problems.
Fun fact, our 6” wide by 400’ deep well has about 380’ of water in it. That’s about 570 gallons just sitting there waiting to be used, not counting the flow rate filling it back up as the water begins to get pumped out.

It’s all about communication on our jobs. In these few pictures you can tell a lot by looking at the floor. All of our windows are numbered when ordered so we help our framers out by numbering the floor by each window opening to ensure the right window is installed in the right location. A red circle with an “S” in it helps the fire inspector locate all the smoke detector locations during inspection. Each door swing is also marked on the floor as shown here in white. This helps the homeowner visualize to ensure that’s the correct swing they want and helps us ensure we have it right when ordering doors. We also note the floor finish and direction of flooring, if applicable, as shown here in yellow. Lastly, we’ll go around and mark in orange anything that might accidentally get covered up during sheetrock. Lights, switches, outlets, speakers, tv location, vents, central vac ports, electrical whips, etc… This way we know immediately if something is buried rather then finding out in the end. While all these things help us at different points throughout the build, most importantly, they help us when walking our clients through their home prior to sheetrocking.

Three things we love most about this kitchen we finished in our last custom build:
1) Accent tile backsplash behind the stove
2) Light fixtures over the island and sink
3) Floating shelves over the desk area
