It has been a busy couple of weeks: Mateo and I have been repairing electrical service pulled off homes in the storms that came through the south suburbs last Monday. It’s crazy to drive around and see all the large trees downed by Mother Nature!

A good info-graphic after our recent bought of storms. The utilities are working to restore service to our neighborhoods, but it might not mean restoration to your home.

Electric crews continue to work to restore service from Thursday’s storm. Due to the nature of the storm impact and types of outages, we expect full restoration to take six to seven days.

Outages as part of the storm may include damage to not only the City’s service line and equipment, but also the homeowner’s equipment. As shown in the included graphic, this includes anything from the service point to the home (excluding the meter itself).

Customers who have experienced damage to the customer equipment will need to have an licensed electrician repair these elements prior to power being reconnected. City crews will be making contact with residents in an attempt to identify those properties where an electrician is needed for service to be restored; this may include an orange tag left at your property; a picture of the tag is attached. If you are aware and confident that repairs are needed to your customer equipment, you are encouraged to reach out to an electrician even before City crews make contact.
Customers who require these repairs are asked to contact the outage line at (269) 659-7255 and leave a message once the repair has been completed so the City is aware that you are ready to be reconnected when service is available and crews can be scheduled to reconnect service.

We thank our customers again for their patience as we work to restore service. Crews have been working diligently to address these issues and will continue to do so as quickly as possible until all customers have power.

There is always the occasional overlap in the trades. I recently got called to diagnose a water heater that was not coming to full temp. A new thermostat on a three phase water heater had it good to go!
