It’s that time of year again. Is your house protected from lightning? I’m Dan Peters, owner of Peters Electric. I’ve lived in Indian Land since 2008. I install whole house Surge protection for electric panels. This will protect you from power surges from the power company or surges from nearby lightning strikes. The device is installed at the electric panel. There are 3 levels of protection. Good, better, and best. Prices range from $199 to $499 depending on the type of panel and if there’s 2 spaces available.
Lightning doesn’t have to strike your house directly. It can hit the ground nearby, then travel up your meter pan, then make its way to your panel, then it spreads throughout the whole house.
These devices stop the surge at the electric panel then send the surge back to the ground.
I’ve already had many service calls to nearby subdivisions. A lot in Sun City recently. The last house I went to lost almost everything plugged into an outlet.
They also lost their electric stove, garage door opener, retractable awning, tv’s, internet/wifi, Alexa devices and more.
The homeowner decided to install whole house surge protection so she won’t have to go through this again. Insurance deductibles can be expensive if you need to make a claim.
