The power flickered during an afternoon storm. Then the AC wouldn’t come back on.

It’s a familiar Southwest Florida afternoon.

The sky gets dark. The rain starts pounding. Thunder rolls in, and suddenly...

The lights flicker.

Everything comes back on a few seconds later, so you don’t think much about it.

Until you realize the house is getting warmer.

You check the thermostat. You lower it a couple of degrees. You wait.

Nothing. 😳

Your AC was working perfectly before the storm, so what happened?

Power fluctuations during our Florida thunderstorms can sometimes trip a breaker or affect electrical components in your HVAC system. Even a brief outage or surge can leave your AC unable to restart properly.

Before assuming the worst, check your thermostat and your home’s AC breaker. If the breaker has tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, don’t keep resetting it. That can be a sign there’s an electrical problem that needs attention.

And if the AC still won’t come back on?

That’s when it’s time to call Epic Air Conditioning. ❄️

Florida storms are unpredictable. Your AC shouldn’t be.

📞 If your system stops working after a storm, give Epic a call and let us help get your home comfortable again.

How Old Is Your Air Conditioner?

In Southwest Florida, your AC works hard almost year-round. Do you know how old yours is?

Here’s a quick age guide:

🟢 0–5 Years: Still young! Keep up with regular maintenance to help it stay efficient.

🔵 6–10 Years: Time to pay closer attention. Watch for rising electric bills, unusual noises, or longer run times.

🟠 11–15 Years: Repairs may become more frequent. It’s a good time to start thinking ahead and weighing repair costs against replacement.

🔴 15+ Years: Your system has put in some serious Florida overtime! If repairs are adding up or your home isn’t staying comfortable, replacement may be worth considering.

Age alone doesn’t determine when an AC needs to be replaced. Maintenance history, condition, efficiency, and repair costs all matter.

Not sure? Epic Air Conditioning can help you figure it out. ❄️

What they are saying abut us.....Epic Air Conditioning from Ft. Myers Fla. are the best/ The entire company was professional, courteous, and very honest people. Rob was able to work to get an acceptable price for my brother, and Sebastian and his wife were diligent in their work and very professional while working as a team. The entire replacement of air conditioner system was complete in one day, old equipment removed, and entire location cleaned before leaving. What a reliable company to have around. I would recommend it to anyone.

It usually starts with a phone call that sounds something like this...

“My AC is running, but the house just doesn’t feel as cool as it used to.”

The homeowner hasn’t necessarily done anything wrong. The AC has been keeping up all summer, so there hasn’t been much reason to think about it.

Then August arrives.

After months of Southwest Florida heat and humidity, that system has been working hard day after day. And one of the most common things we find during service calls this time of year is a dirty or clogged AC system that’s struggling to breathe and drain properly.

Filters get dirty. Condensate lines can begin to clog. Coils collect dirt and debris. Little by little, the system has to work harder to do the same job.

The homeowner may notice the AC running longer, certain rooms feeling warmer, higher electric bills, extra humidity inside the house, or even water near the indoor unit.

Sometimes the first sign is when the AC finally says, “I’ve had enough.”

August is tough on air conditioners in Southwest Florida. If yours seems to be working harder than usual, making different noises, or simply isn’t keeping you as comfortable as it did earlier in the summer, it may be trying to tell you something.

A little attention now could help prevent an uncomfortable surprise later.

Give Epic Air Conditioning a call and let’s make sure your system is ready to finish the summer strong.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done to stay cool?

If you’ve lived through a Southwest Florida summer, you know there comes a point when you’ll try just about anything to cool down. 😂

Maybe you’ve stood in front of the open freezer pretending you were looking for something.

Put your pillowcase in the freezer before bed.

Sat directly in front of a fan with a bag of frozen peas.

Taken a cold shower and refused to move afterward.

Or maybe you’ve gotten creative in a way we haven’t even thought of yet!

We want to hear it.

What’s the weirdest or funniest thing YOU’VE ever done to stay cool?

And if you’re doing any of these things because your AC isn’t keeping up...you might want to give us a call.

"It was just a little water..."

That's what one homeowner thought when they noticed a small puddle near the indoor AC unit.

They wiped it up, figured it was no big deal, and went on with their day.

A week later, the puddle was back. Then came the musty smell. Before long, they were dealing with water damage to the drywall and flooring.

The culprit?

A clogged AC condensate drain line.

Here in Southwest Florida, your air conditioner pulls a tremendous amount of moisture out of the air every single day. All that water has to go somewhere. Over time, algae, mold, dirt, and debris can build up inside the drain line until it becomes blocked.

When that happens, the water has nowhere to go except back into your home.

The good news? This is one of the easiest problems to prevent with regular maintenance.

A quick inspection and drain line cleaning can help keep the water flowing where it belongs and may save you from an expensive repair later.
Have you ever discovered a clogged drain line or unexpected water around your AC? Share your story in the comments. It might help another homeowner catch the problem early!

We often hear....."If my air conditioner is still running, it doesn't need maintenance."

It sounds logical... after all, if it's working, why fix what isn't broken?

Here's the catch.

Your air conditioner can still be running while small problems are quietly developing inside the system. Dirty coils, a clogged condensate drain, low refrigerant, or worn electrical components can all make your AC work harder than it should.

That means:
Higher electric bills
An increased risk of water damage
More expensive repairs down the road
A greater chance of your AC failing on one of Southwest Florida's hottest days

Think of AC maintenance like changing the oil in your car. You don't wait for the engine to stop before taking care of it.

A simple tune-up can help your system run more efficiently, last longer, and keep your home comfortable all summer long.

If it's been a while since your last maintenance visit, now is a great time to schedule one before the peak heat and storm season put even more strain on your system.
