I’ve known you since the day you were born.

I still remember getting the text from your dad early that morning while I was working for the railroad, letting me know you were here. It’s crazy how moments like that stick with you. Back then, you were just a brand-new baby, and now here you are graduating from Clovis High School.

I’m not sure how time went by that fast. I’m also not sure who told you it was okay to grow up and end up about a foot taller than me, but apparently you decided to do both anyway. I’ll let the height thing slide, but only because it’s your graduation.

All jokes aside, I want you to know I’m proud of you. It has been really special watching you grow up and seeing the young man you have become. Graduation is a big deal, and you should be proud of yourself for getting to this point.

You have your whole life ahead of you, and I hope you go after it with confidence, work hard, stay humble, and never forget where you came from.

Congratulations on graduating. I’m proud of you, kid.

And thanks for making me feel old — and short.
