Happy Wednesday Sewists

I try really hard to not be a
“thread snob”! Yet, when I get totally different results from the same machine, tension settings, bobbin thread the only difference is I swapped out Coats and Clark with Aurifil. The Aurifil sews way better as you can clearly see! It’s the little things that can make all the difference sometimes!

I had a great time this morning as the guest speaker at The Flying Needles quilt guild meeting! We covered some basic machine maintenance, threads, and machine storage.

They started the meeting in Prayer and The Pledge of Allegiance!! They all clapped when the planes from Eglin flew over!

As you may or may not know, where there’s quilter’s there’s “snacks”! All home made, naturally….

I’m happy to come back anytime! Maybe next time we could a round robin of Q & A….

Eye spy something that definitely should not ever be in your machine 👀

If you guessed a “pipe cleaner” you guessed right! This one is lodged in part of the feed unit! They should never be used to clean your machine!

I will be doing a “maintenance” demo next Thursday at The Flying Needles guild meeting!

Two different machines, same concern! This is what wreaks havoc on machines! It puts all the moving parts with tight tolerances in a bind! You can avoid this by doing periodic maintenance between visits with me!

The Bobcat is back at it with another dress adjustment, this time for Harper!

You know how it is, everything has to be just sew for the middle school VIP dance!

Maybe, The Bobcat will start doing alterations on the side?? Not likely…. Lol he’s going to stick with keeping your babies (machines) running like a sewing machine!

I have been seeing a lot of these“knock off” or “generic” class 15 bobbins lately. The bobbin on the left w/red thread.

Did you know that: they are a tad bit smaller in diameter (causing the bobbin to rattle in the bobbin case. This can cause the bobbin to jump around in the bobbin case and the top thread to catch on it.

The Bobcat recommends/suggests that you use an original bobbin or a quality replacement. Not what’s in the picture
I always have quality class 15’s on hand 👊🏼

Happy Tuesday Sewists

It’s not often I have 2 really old Singer Class 99’s in at the same time, in two different offerings.

The first one is from 7/12/1939 and is finished in a “crinkle finish”. There were only 3000 of these made.

The second one is from 2/26/1925 and finished in the more traditional Singer fashion. Finished in gloss black with the decorative details, however this one has a table and can also be a portable. There were 15,000 of these made.

What great pieces of history in the shop today! I’m honored the customers (friends) that bring and allow me to work on their machines! It’s crazy that they’re both in great working condition for being this old!

As they saying goes
“they don’t make’em like they used to” 👊🏼
