There are days I wonder if my kids really notice all the long hours, the weekends spent working, the phone calls, the stress, and the sacrifices that come with owning a business.
Then today happened.
My almost 7-year-old son disappeared outside and came back excited to show me the little house he was building. He wasn’t following instructions or copying a video. He was using scraps, his imagination, and his own two hands to create something he was proud of.
Standing there watching him, I realized he wasn’t just building a little house.
He was building the way he’s watched me build.
Kids don’t always remember what we tell them. They remember what we show them. Every project they’ve seen me pour myself into, every obstacle I’ve worked through, every time I’ve chosen hard work over excuses… he’s been watching. Quietly learning.
We may never have everything money can buy, but in that moment I realized we’re already rich.
Rich in the values being passed down.
Rich in the work ethic being lived out every day.
Rich in knowing that the greatest thing I’ll ever build won’t be a business, a deck, a fence, or a home…
It’ll be the character of my children.
One day, long after I’m done carrying the weight, I hope he’s the one building something of his own, with integrity, pride, creativity, and craftsmanship. If that day comes, I’ll smile knowing it all started with a little boy, a pile of wood, and a dream of building his own little house.
That’s a legacy worth leaving.
