These types of devices are not new but have really grown in popularity this past year. They monitor water usage and learn your water use habits and this allows it to detect a leak you may not otherwise know exists. You’ll have the ability to remotely turn your water on or off anytime with the app! Most insurance companies offer discounts when you have these devices installed any many new home builders are making these a part of all new builds.

Atlas recently installed one of these devices on a high rise commercial bullding in downtown Fort Worth. Two weeks after install we got a call that the device detected a leak and sure enough there was a small pinhole leak on a copper line inside of a wall on the 3rd floor. Easy fix and minimal water damage on a leak that would have likely gone undetected until real damage occured. Needless to say the building owner was beyond pleased he decided to add this type of leak protection!

This is a good illustration of what happens when a frost proof style outdoor faucet freezes.
