Many of our clients are seeing their lawns turning yellow, and looking stressed in general. Unfortunately, we have been expecting this problem. We have been forced to water excessively this year. Most of us are using our local municipality's water. That includes coops and city water. Due to the record heat and lake conditions, the water that reaches our lawns has an extremely high chlorine content.
Many of us have reported higher chlorine content in the irrigation water than in our pools. Needless to say chlorine is not good for turf grass, especially St. Augustine. The remedy for this is rain (which we can not control) and adding products that replenish what is being lost.
We are recommending a 'Fall Stress Relief' application which consists of Chelated Iron and Nature's Guide Root Stimulator. It is a spray application that can be done with the October fertilization. It can also be done by itself. This should be applied as soon as possible. After the fall application is done, we will assess the yard once it starts growing again in April or May, then decide if another application should be done.
The 'Fall Stress Relief' service costs around $4.00 per 1,000 square feet when done with the October fertilization and should be done on all types of turf grass. Please contact us for more information.
