Well, that one came out of nowhere. ⛈️

While much of DFW stayed completely dry this evening, parts of North Fort Worth, Keller, Haslet, Denton and the surrounding area were hit by a fast-moving severe storm with damaging winds and hail reportedly reaching 1–1.5 inches in some areas.

If the storm left you with an active leak or exposed area, we offer FREE emergency/temporary repairs to help protect your home from further damage. We also take care of minor repairs at no charge whenever we reasonably can.

If your property was in the path of the storm and you’re unsure whether it was affected, J. Treviño Roofing offers free, honest roof inspections. We’ll document what we find and let you know whether there’s actually anything worth worrying about.

No damage? We’ll tell you that too.

📞 Reach out by call, text, or message if you need emergency help or would like to schedule an inspection.

What do soffit vents actually do? 🏠💨

Soffit vents allow fresh outside air to enter your attic from underneath the roof's overhang.

Without adequate ventilation, attic temperatures can climb significantly, exposing the underside of your shingles to additional heat. Over time, excessive heat can contribute to accelerated shingle aging and blistering.

Working with exhaust vents higher on the roof, soffit vents help move hot air out and keep attic temperatures better regulated.

A good ventilation system needs both: intake down low and exhaust up high.

What’s underneath your new roof matters.

One common corner-cutting practice is leaving old underlayment in place and simply roofing over it.

The biggest problem? It hides the roof deck.

We remove the existing roofing system down to the decking so we can actually inspect it, identify damaged areas, and make necessary repairs before installing your new roof.

Leaving old layers behind can also mean extra weight, additional tear-off costs down the road, and problems that should have been caught during replacement.

On insurance claims, additional removal for multiple existing layers may also be covered when properly documented.

A new roof should be done right from the deck up.

A quality roof starts with a solid foundation.

Once the old roofing system is removed, we inspect the decking underneath for damaged, deteriorated, or otherwise unsuitable areas. Those problems need to be addressed before the new roof goes on—because even the best shingles can’t make up for a bad roof deck.

And the reality is, it’s pretty common to uncover a small area or two that needs attention during a tear-off.

That’s why J. Treviño Roofing includes replacement of up to two sheets of damaged decking at no additional charge with our roof replacements.

We don’t want a routine decking repair to turn into an unexpected bill in the middle of your project. We’d rather account for the little things upfront, take care of them properly, and make the entire process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

No cutting corners. No surprise charge for the first couple sheets. Just a solid roof from the decking up.

A roof is only as strong as its most vulnerable areas.

That’s why we install ice & water shield in every valley and around chimneys and other critical penetrations on our roof replacements.

Unlike standard synthetic underlayment, ice & water shield is a self-adhering waterproof membrane that seals directly to the roof deck and helps protect against water intrusion in areas where runoff is concentrated or leaks are more likely to develop.

It’s one of those details you may never see once the roof is finished—but it can make a huge difference in how well that roof protects your home for years to come.

If your roof is showing its age, has been through recent storms, or you simply want to know what kind of shape it’s in, give us a call. We offer free roof inspections throughout DFW.

A roof should never be quoted from the ground.

This looked like a simple lifted shingle, but a closer inspection revealed additional damaged shingles that weren't visible at first.

That's why J. Treviño Roofing always performs a thorough inspection before recommending repairs or writing an estimate. Understanding the full scope of the damage helps ensure the repair is done right the first time - which prevents you from having to pay for future repairs in the same area.

Temporary repairs can buy you time—but they aren't permanent.

Whether it's a tarp, synthetic underlayment, or another emergency repair, the goal is simple: keep water out until the roof can be repaired properly.

These materials are designed to withstand the elements for a while, but they aren't meant to replace a finished roofing system. Sun, wind, and weather will eventually take their toll.

That's why I always recommend scheduling the permanent repair as soon as reasonably possible. Waiting too long can turn a small roof problem into damaged decking, insulation, drywall, and a much more expensive repair.

I offer free temporary and emergency repairs whenever it's practical to help prevent additional damage while you figure out your next steps. My goal is to protect your home first, then help you make the repair that's right for your situation.

If you think your roof might be damaged, even if you think it's probably minor, don't hesitate to reach out:

By the time you notice a ceiling stain, the leak may have already been there for weeks—or even months.

Water doesn't always drip straight through your ceiling the first time it gets inside. It can travel along roof decking, rafters, or insulation before finally finding a place to show itself.

In many cases, that stain is simply the first visible sign of a problem that's been developing for a while.

That's why it's important not to ignore even small water stains. Catching a leak early can often mean a simpler, less expensive repair than waiting until the damage spreads to decking, insulation, drywall, or framing.

If you've noticed a new ceiling stain after recent storms, it's worth having the roof inspected sooner rather than later. Sometimes the repair required is minor—but the longer water has to work, the more damage it can cause.

One of the downsides of older 3-tab shingles is their fragility.

As they age, they become increasingly brittle. Even routine repairs can be challenging because surrounding shingles may crack or tear when they're lifted.

That's why every repair has to be approached carefully. The goal isn't just replacing the damaged shingle—it's minimizing additional damage while restoring the roof's ability to shed water properly.

If your home still has an older 3-tab roof, periodic inspections can help catch small problems before they become leaks. Sometimes a repair is all that's needed. Other times, the condition of the shingles makes replacement the more practical long-term solution.

No two roofs age exactly the same. That's why I always recommend inspecting first and making a recommendation based on the roof's actual condition—not a one-size-fits-all sales pitch.

This shingle has been discontinued.

That may not seem like a big deal today, but if this roof is damaged in the future, finding a compatible replacement could be difficult or even impossible.

A roof is a system—not just a collection of shingles. A proper repair requires materials that are compatible with the existing roof so it continues to perform as intended. When compatible materials are no longer available, even a relatively small repair can become much more complicated.

That's one of the many things we look for during our inspections. Knowing whether your roof is still repairable can make a big difference when it's time to address storm damage or other issues.
