🚨 warning 🚨 be vigilant tonight!! Keep an eye out for anything, take cover if needed, ☎️ call us if you have any damage. Most importantly.. stay safe!!!

Update on Thursday's Severe weather potential:

1- Most active period will likely be 4pm to 9pm, but some isolated severe storms may develop by early afternoon ahead of a potent squall line that will sweep through late afternoon/evening.
2- All modes of severe weather possible, but damaging winds and large hail will be the primary threats.
3- Greatest threat for severe weather still appears to be from roughly Dallas-eastward, but EVERYONE needs to be weather aware tomorrow.
4- Most of the severe weather we see will likely be associated with the squall line that will develop in our far western/southwestern counties around 4pm, then quickly move east. DFW will see the line
of storms move through from 5-8pm, with eastern areas in the 7-10pm time period.
5- Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the situation. While the bulk of severe weather is expected to occur late afternoon/evening, any isolated storms developing earlier in the afternoon could become quite strong quickly and capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.

Thunder Sleet?!? 😱

Holy moly! Did anyone else experience the sound and site of that?! So cool! Post your sleet photos below ⬇️

What I found out about this rare event is this below: 🧐

So what exactly is Thunder Sleet? Well, it is exactly what is sounds like! This natural weather event happens when thunder and lightning happen at the same time as sleet, or freezing rain. It a weather phenomenon that is extremely rare and according to Scientific America, "less than 1 percent of observed snowstorms unleash Thunder Snow or Sleet'.

Thunder Sleet forms in a similar fashion as a traditional Thunder Storm, but with a minor difference. Thunderstorms traditionally form when warm, moist air rises into cold air. The warm air will become cooler which will cause the water droplets to form. This repetitive circuit of rising and falling air is called a convection cell which thunderstorms are formed. Thunder Sleet is formed when rain falls from the cloud and the ground temperature is below freezing (32 degrees), the droplets will starts to freeze. Some times they will not freeze until they are closer to the surface. Conditions have to be just right for Thunder Sleet to form which is why this weather phenomenon is so rare to see!.

Stay safe, these winds are no joke! Make sure you have your alerts on.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for parts of the Fox 4 Weather viewing area. The tornado threat overall is still low, but a few isolated tornadoes are certainly possible. Damaging winds are still the primary threat.

Fact: Hail Storms may not remove shingles depending on the wind during the storm, but may very well cause leakage for years after a hail storm.
