I remember 2 summers ago we had some guys scrape a bunch of paint on a house. No ground coverings when I went to check the finished product. We had no SOPs in place, our words got more and more distant as the year went on. It's obvious that the ground should always be covered, but without proper leadership; constant chaos is normal.

No SOPs.
No clear expectations
Employee frustration
No project manager
A jobsite 78 miles away from the next nearest jobsite.
Cleaning up behind crews thinking it was "apart of business"

This was me not that long ago. I had to buy mulch for a house that had 10000s of paint chips littered.
Not because of my guys, but because of me. It was my fault this was happening over and over again. The faster you can blame yourself for the businesses shortcomings, and take action to change it, the better you will be.

Instead of spending time at home with my daughter, I had to load her up and clean up a mess. This used to be very common.

When I was in Fountain Hills I met up with James Mansour aka The Arizona Painter

I barley spoke. I was all ears soaking in everything he had to say. Us new school kids think we know everything. But the OGs definitely know how to play ball.

One of his peices of advice, was that all subcontractors and employees should be using the same brushes, rollers, and wizzie rollers. Same nap, same brand.

He explained that this eliminates inconsistencies across the jobs. You have a guy in bedroom one rolling with a purdy half inch nap. The other guys in bedroom 2 rolling with a wooster 3/4 inch nap. Bedroom 1 cutting in with a purdy chinex. Bedroom two cutting in with a corona excalibur.

He said he puts this in his sub contractor agreements that there must be uniformity if they take on a job from him. I was mind blown. I instantly thought back to so many instances where this was most likely the quality issue we were having. It might sound novice, but a lot of painters have their own preferences.

He was actually the one who pushed me towards looking into the Painting Contractors Association - PCA and looking at refining and doing things more professionally.
