Sometimes doing the right thing means owning a mistake and making it right.
On this project, we poured custom concrete steps with a Top Cast finish. The day of the pour, Top Cast #3 was accidentally used instead of Top Cast #1. While both are quality products, #3 exposes a much heavier sand-wash finish. Once the concrete cured, the texture came out more exposed than the client wanted—they were looking for a lighter, more subtle finish.
Instead of arguing over technicalities or what was “acceptable,” we listened.
We understood the client’s vision, and we took responsibility. Even though the work was structurally sound, it wasn’t what the client asked for. So we made the decision to remove and redo the steps, using the correct Top Cast to achieve the lighter finish they wanted.
Redoing work is never easy—but integrity isn’t about taking the easy route.
It’s about standing behind your craftsmanship, honoring your client’s expectations, and delivering the final product they were promised.
