A short email review from audio engineer Chris Johnson on the Vanguard V4 -

"I would like to know where Vanguard was when I was starting out in this business? Like other people I've tried many different mics (not mentioning the manufacturers out of respect). If I could have just found this mic first, I would have just recorded happily for a very long time.

"It doesn't have any of the funky, sloppy treble resonances that a lot of microphones at this price point have. I would call this a professional microphone with nice natural treble.

"The microphone is very well built. The shockmount is awesome. I was initially surprised at the small form factor, but after a while I realized what a plus it is this microphone has a huge sound in a small compact format.

"...if you can do this with a $400 microphone, I'm wondering how amazing your tube mic must be?"
