Chance's Practical Contracting LLC

Chance's Practical Contracting LLC A small one man business focusing on practical solutions and excellent customer service. I started working for myself on the side when I was very young.

I have experience in painting, landscaping, hard scaping, masonry labor, moving, painting, and light carpentry. I am interested in taking up most jobs. My favorite jobs are those where I have a task to accomplish and can really dig in. I will not accept or even quote on a job I don't want to do or don't have the experience to finish properly. Thank you for visiting my page.

This toilet wasn't sealed and the floor wasn't installed correctly so the water slowly ate away until the subfloor had nothing left. Had to rip it down to guts and replace the fl**ge.

When I was new into running my own business, a client put their faith in me and offered me a very large job that I had 2 months to complete. I did the job in time and made enough money to get a lot of the tools I needed for flooring and finish carpentry. Part of the deal was that I had to tile their bathroom (a service that I don't offer). The bathroom floor grew in height enough to necessitate putting in a new fl**ge, their old one was also worse for wear. I informed the client that I just had to buy a special bit to eat the male end of the pvc out of the female. He decided to have his plumber come and fix it since the plumber had to come on site anyways. The client sent me an email later saying the the plumber didn't know what I was talking about. The client was told in less plain terms that I did unnecessary damage and an extention ring should have been added. I disagreed because of the state of the bolts and other factors. I was so offended that it stuck with me to this day.

Here is an excerpt from the email I got: "The drain pipe is thin-walled, so it would have been a disaster if you had tried to drill it out, to the point that we would have been tearing up the new tile floor to fix that."

The moral of this story is, don't let someone who is threatened by your work deter you from completing it. Be insistent on your worth and let people know why they should have just let you do it. Also, to all you old trades people out there, don't let new tools scare you. The industry always evolves and you should be open to integrating modern techniques into your old school methodology.

Pictured is a before and after of a 3" toilet fl**ge that I drilled back with a Ram Bit.

This client told me I could just cut the replacement floor piece in half and cup it around the pipe. I opted to do the job correctly.

A small update for clients:
As I am putting everything into expanding my services and getting my electrical licence, I am constantly getting new equipment. My most recent purchase is a Flir thermal camera. If anybody needs thermal imaging/heat loss/wants their panel looked at... feel free to give me a shout.

My father has needed a new bed for some time now. I'm generally swamped with work and contracts. I wanted to take the time to make him one before fathers day. Done in a rustic fashion with flame and boiled linseed oil, he got his own custom twin xl slatted frame.

Switched out this old failed tile for a nice pvc completely waterproof vinyl plank. This floor is upstairs in an older house and was a bit curvy by this point. Flexibility is the best aspect of Pergo Wet Protect in my opinion. Combine that solid waterproof commercial grade with some Schluter waterproof membrane underneath and you have a system that will last a very long time. On a job like this, I opt for pvc trim glued down with a polyurethane glue for a puncture free trim. Clear 100% sealing trim to floor.

Couldn't be more pleased. I have 8 of the set pictured left for sale.
