Rappahannock Electric Cooperative

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative Serving 185,000+ connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. To ensure fast and efficient response, member outages cannot be reported through Facebook.

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative’s (REC) page is designed to complement our other print and online communications. Topics covered are of general interest to our membership (and, often, to the public) and include energy efficiency, product and service offerings, general outage updates, community events, business developments, and electrical safety. We may not be able to respond to every c

omment, and, to safeguard our members’ privacy, we cannot reply via Facebook to questions about individual accounts. Members may report outages and get detailed account information by calling 800-552-3904 or by logging into the Web Self-Service area of www.myrec.coop. In some circumstances, REC’s response to a visitor’s post may call for research or the involvement of an REC employee with a particular expertise. In that case the person posting the question or comment may be directed to an REC e-mail address for follow-up. REC values the interaction fostered by online environments like Facebook, but we reserve the right to delete posts that are off-topic or that involve personal attacks, profanity, or commercial product promotions.

As a cooperative, REC is deeply rooted in the communities we serve and committed to investing in their future. Supporting the youth in our communities through financial assistance is an important part of that commitment. These outstanding high school students are preparing to begin an exciting new chapter, and we are honored to help support their success by easing some of the financial burden of college.
The recipients of the REC Scholarship have demonstrated exceptional dedication to academics, leadership, and service within their communities.

Congratulations to our REC students! Your futures are bright, and we look forward to seeing all you will accomplish.

⚡ Storm Restoration Update

More than 5,400 members lost power as severe storms moved through our service territory last night. Since then, crews have been working around the clock to assess damage, clear hazards and restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

Damaging winds from the severe storms resulted in downed trees and broken poles. On average a broken pole takes an estimated 3–4 hours to replace, which makes outage repairs tedious and lengthy. Crews continue to replace broken poles after last night's storms.

If you're without power, please report your outage so we can restore power as quickly and safely as possible:

The most important work on the electric grid is often the work you never see. Reliability is built, not restored and in 2025, REC crews completed 48 major grid improvement projects, replaced 6,402 poles, maintained more than 1,800 miles of right-of-way and removed over 2,400 hazard trees, all to address issues before they ever reach you.

We also inspected 48,097 service points and used drones to inspect more than 40,000 overhead assets. And with 64 substations now connected through our Fiber Utility Network, our grid is smarter and more responsive than ever.

When early 2026 storms put our system to the test, our crews were ready. Because reliability doesn't happen by chance, it's built every single day.

Powering Value means investing in reliability long before it's needed.

The trades are in high demand, and there are plenty of employment opportunities available. As a cooperative that employs many skilled tradespeople, we understand and appreciate the vital role they play in the daily operations of any company. The specialized skills students gain through technical schools prepare them well for the workforce, equipping them with the knowledge and expertise needed to succeed on the job.

Supporting young people in our communities who choose these meaningful and rewarding career paths is important to us, and we are proud to encourage the next generation of skilled professionals.

Congratulations Aidan and Owen!
