Summertime is here. We are now well into July, and we've made it through that critical time of year in which it is so important to hold off on Oak trimming out of an abundance of caution to mitigate the spread of Oak Wilt by sap beetle. Oak tree trimming can now be performed and can continue until around February when those beetles become more active again. Just remember that no matter what time of year it is and no matter who might work on these lovely trees, any fresh cuts, tears, or wounds need to be sealed immediately. Holidays are great! But it can often be difficult to truly observe them as intended. This Memorial Day, by God's grace, may we intentionally pause with humble authenticity and awareness to remember the fallen and pray for their loved ones including their brothers and sisters in arms as we enjoy the many blessings they serve to protect.

A reminder for everyone related to our beloved Oak trees throughout the Texas Hill Country - This is the time of year to ramp down any trimming/cutting on various species of Oak until our weather turns hot again in July. As spring approaches, those sap-feeding beetles become more active increasing the chances of spreading Oak Wilt from infected trees to healthy ones through open wounds. If a branch tears or you find it absolutely necessary to make a cut on an Oak for safety reasons during this time, it is best to immediately seal any wounds with tree spray. Sealing is important year round but especially during this time from around February through around June. Take care!

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! (If you're like me, you probably ate too much too fast and would have been better served to spread it out over a bit more time...a strategy I just can't seem to implement.) Anyway, during this time in our neck of the woods as we remember Thanksgiving and look forward to Christmas, let us just offer another reminder, since it's been such a dry year, to make sure the trees on your property that you care about are getting enough water. And let's pray for some good rain!
