A new cedar fence and gate can change the feel of a property pretty quickly.

This one adds privacy, gives the yard a more finished look, and creates a solid entry point with a gate that fits the rest of the fence.

Cedar also has a way of looking better as it ages.

This backyard had good bones. It just needed a little reset.

The old gravel had washed out over time, the walkways no longer worked well for the space, and the fence and gates were ready for a replacement.

We replaced the gravel with natural flagstone set in mortar, creating walkways that carry you through the backyard and connect the different areas of the property. We also added a sitting area and replaced the old fence and gates with new cedar.

The difference is more than just how it looks. The backyard is easier to walk through, easier to use, and feels like it belongs with the home.

Funny how fast “we’ll get to it” turns into a few years.

A shrub dies.

One flower bed gets ignored.

The lawn starts thinning out.

Nothing looks terrible by itself, but eventually the whole property feels tired.

That’s what we changed here.

If rain keeps leaving puddles along the side of your home, the problem usually isn’t the rain. It’s where that water ends up. 

This side of the home stayed muddy after every storm. Water collected along the foundation, leaving the walkway difficult to use and the area constantly wet. 

With the recent flooding across Texas, drainage problems have been more noticeable for many homeowners. Heavy rain will always happen, but having a place for that water to go can make a big difference. 

We installed a French drain to collect the water underground and move it away from the home. The limestone rock finish allows water to drain through while giving the walkway a more stable, usable surface.

The best time to plant a tree was years ago. The next best time is now.

Most people don’t think about planting a tree until they realize they’re missing one.

Maybe it’s a patio that gets too much afternoon sun. Maybe the front yard feels empty. Maybe you want more privacy from the neighbors. A well placed tree solves all of those problems, and it only gets better with time.

In this project, we planted Teddy Bear Magnolias. They’re a great choice for homeowners who want year round greenery, natural privacy, and a tree that stays neat without taking over the yard.

One thing a lot of people don’t realize is that trees can be planted throughout the year. As long as they’re planted correctly and cared for, you don’t have to wait for a certain season to start improving your landscape.

Old pavers had done their job, but they no longer matched the home or the way the property had evolved.

We replaced them with natural flagstone walkways that tie the front, side, and backyard together. The new paths feel like they belong here and make it easier to move through the property without taking away from the landscape.

Sometimes the biggest difference isn’t adding more. It’s choosing the right material.

When we first showed up, this backyard was just grass.

No patio. No walkways. No connection between the house, the garage, and the rest of the yard.

The homeowners wanted more than another patch of lawn. They wanted a place to grill, somewhere to sit with family, and walkways that made it easy to get around the property.

So that’s what we built.

A paver patio became the centerpiece, with walkways connecting the house, garage, and backyard into one space that is easier to use and enjoy.
