Today I had a client tell me that they were going to have their electrical work completed by sometime who didn’t have an electrical license. “They had a really good price”.
Many things wrong with that!
1) It is illegal in the state of Maine and many states /anywhere to perform electrical work without an ELECTRICAL license, and or a business license. UNLESS YOU ARE THE HOMEOWNER.
2) They are not a Licensed Master Electrician ( AS I AM) or Licensed Limited Electrician. They can not perform the work.
3) If you have rental units you CAN-NOT perform electrical, plumbing and hvac. Any trade that requires a licensed technician to do the work, means you must hire those trades people to do the work in your rental units. PEACE OF MIND!
4) Since the “person” who is doing the work is not a licensed contractor for that trade. Their insurance will not cover their mistakes or anything that they perform. They can’t obtain insurance to do that work!
5) Unfortunately, if this person performs the work, after the job you may never be able to locate them again. If your house burns down, you may be on the hook, not them. That means that your insurance may/most likely not cover you.
6) “HANDYMEN” (UNLESS LICENSED IN THAT TRADE) CAN NOT PERFORM ELECTRICAL, HVAC & PLUMBING IN THE STATE OF MAINE. Don’t let them convince you that they can‼️‼️
7) They don’t know the NEC= National Electrical Code. This governs what and how we do our electrical installations.
8)They didn’t spend their time investing over 600 hours of apprenticeship classes or two years of full time apprenticeship/trade school education.
9) They didnt test for their journeyman license.
10) They didn’t test for their Masters license.
11) The state didn’t approve this person to perform work in that trade.
12) Over 8,000+ hours of apprenticeship hours must be obtained to be eligible to test for you journeyman electrician license.
13) An additional 2000+hours as a journeyman electrician must be obtained to be eligible to test for your Masters Electrical license.
14) Then the state must approve YOU! To perform the work.
15) At that time you still don’t have all of the experience to do the job correctly.
16) Many many years beyond that you will develop the skills needed….and as usual YOU STILL LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY!
To sum it up!
Pay a professional to do the job correctly.l‼️✅✅🙌🙌
They have the license for a reason, they have insurance for a reason, they have years of experience that they have
completed to make your experience easier.
DO YOUR DILIGENCE!
Please check that person’s credentials, insurance and history.
It’s ok to ask questions, many of them!
Have them give you a detailed quote/ estimate with all of the specifics and job scope details.
Don’t be afraid to be diligent to protect your family, home and investment.
If you don’t pick the Kona Electrical Company to do the work, that’s ok. Then take my advice!
Any tradesperson should be transparent with what they are offering!
