Spring is here... and so are the "uninvited guests."
It’s finally starting to warm up in Nebraska! But as we open our curtains to let the sun in, a lot of us are finding some unwanted houseguests.
If you’re seeing clusters like the ones in my photo near your windows or ceiling, those are Asian Lady Beetles. They’ve been hiding in your walls or attic all winter, just waiting for the temperature to rise. Now that it’s warming up, they’re "waking up" and trying to find their way back outside—which usually leads them right into your living space.
A few things to keep in mind:
Don’t Squash Them: When they’re stressed or crushed, they release a yellow fluid that smells bad and can leave permanent stains on your walls, trim, and furniture.
They Can Be Grumpy: Unlike the ladybugs we see in the garden, these guys are known to give a little "nip" or pinch if they land on you.
The "Sun Seekers": You’ll mostly find them on the sunny side of the house or gathered around window frames where it’s warmest.
If your spring cleaning has been interrupted by a beetle invasion, don't worry about the mess or the smell of DIY "solutions."
