đ October is here! And while spooky season is in full swing, thereâs one thing your lawn should be afraid of right now: chinch bugs. đ
Emerald Traditions to the rescue! đ±
Chinch bugs are especially troublesome for St. Augustine lawns here in Southeast Texas, where our heat and growing conditions create an ideal environment for these pests. They feed on the plantâs sap and can inject a substance that damages the grass, causing it to yellow, decline, and eventually die. Left untreated, small areas of damage can quickly expand into large, irregular patches of dead turf.
What should you look for?
đ Irregular patches of yellowing or dying grass
đ Brown or dead areas that seem to be spreading
đ Damage that starts in hot, sunny areasâespecially near driveways, sidewalks, or other heat-reflecting surfaces
đ Chinch bugs or tiny reddish nymphs hiding in the grass and thatch
Chinch bug damage can look a lot like drought stress or disease, so getting the problem properly identified and treated matters.
Donât let a tiny pest become a major lawn problem. If youâre seeing signs of chinch bug activity, call the Emerald Traditions team promptly. Weâll identify the problem and provide the treatment your lawn needs to get back on track. đż
