I’ll be honest, it always drives me crazy seeing the hate toward roofers.
I understand where it comes from. Getting hit with hail is frustrating, expensive, and something nobody asks for. Then right after that, you’ve got roofers showing up, calling, knocking, trying to help, and I get how that can feel overwhelming.
But just because we show up when damage happens doesn’t make us the enemy.
We’re not the storm. We’re the ones trying to fix what the storm caused.
Like any industry, there are bad companies out there, and they give everyone a bad name. I won’t defend that. People should absolutely do their research and choose who they work with carefully.
But there are also a lot of us who take real pride in what we do. We help restore homes, protect families, and make sure people aren’t left dealing with bigger problems down the road.
Yes, we get paid to do that. That’s how business works. It doesn’t cancel out the fact that we genuinely want to help people through a tough situation.
Personally, I’ve put lots of dollars and a ton of time back into the community over the years because it matters to me. I didn’t charge for a single tarp or inspection with more rain on its way. Not for recognition, not to post about it… because it’s just the right thing to do.
What gets frustrating is feeling like no matter what you do, it gets twisted. If you give, it’s seen as self serving. If you charge, it’s seen as greedy. If you stay quiet, it looks like you don’t care.
At some point, it just comes down to this. Not all roofers are the same.
Do your homework, find a company you trust, and hold them accountable. That’s fair.
But writing off an entire industry because of a few bad experiences isn’t.
