When you realize YOU are the backup plan.

Every contractor has had that moment.

You confidently tell the client, “Don't worry, we'll figure it out.”
And then you look around the jobsite and realize...
You're the one who has to figure it out.

The crew's looking at you. The schedule's looking at you. The problem definitely isn't solving itself.

Just another day in the life of an outdoor living contractor…good thing Cody's had a little practice after 550+ backyard builds and has an awesome team that makes things happen.

Contractors and business owners...please tell us you can relate. 👇

Only in Texas…

One week you're enjoying 80-degree afternoons on the patio. The next, you're scrambling to protect everything before the first freeze.

And while October might feel early to start thinking about winter, a little preparation now can save you from expensive repairs later.
Here are a few things every Texas homeowner should have on their fall checklist:

💧 Protect exposed plumbing. Check outdoor faucets, water lines, and plumbing connected to outdoor kitchens. Insulate vulnerable pipes and know how to shut off and drain lines when freezing temperatures are expected.

🪨 Inspect your stone, pavers, and decking. Look for cracks, damaged joints, and areas where moisture could cause problems. Clean and seal surfaces as recommended for the material.

🔥 Prep your outdoor kitchen. Clean your grill, protect appliances with properly fitted covers, and follow manufacturer recommendations for winterizing sinks, refrigerators, and other outdoor equipment.

🏊 Don't forget the pool. Check your freeze-protection settings, equipment, and plumbing before temperatures drop. Make sure you have a plan if the power goes out during a freeze.

🍂 Clear drains and gutters. Leaves and debris can block water flow, creating problems when winter rain and freezing temperatures arrive.

Your backyard is an investment. Protecting it should be just as important as building it right in the first place.

The best time to prepare for a Texas freeze isn't when the forecast starts warning you.
It's before you need to.

Gas or wood-burning? Saltwater or chlorine? Fall or summer? 👀

We're back with Part 2 of THIS or THAT: Backyard Edition, and Cody's making some more rapid-fire decisions!

This round is all about convenience, comfort, and getting the most out of your outdoor living space.

🔥 Gas vs. wood-burning fire pit? GAS. Cody loves the smell and crackle of a real wood fire, but sometimes you just can't beat pushing a button and enjoying the flames.

💦 Saltwater vs. chlorine pool? SALTWATER. Cody prefers the feel and maintenance benefits of a saltwater system. And here's something many homeowners don't realize: saltwater pools are actually chlorine pools! They just generate their own chlorine from salt.

🍂 Fall vs. summer backyard build? FALL.

Cooler temperatures can make working conditions easier, and while you're busy with school, sports, and everyday life, your backyard transformation is happening behind the scenes.

Then one day...BOOM. You've got a brand-new backyard.

The biggest takeaway? The right choices aren't always about what's most popular. They're about what makes your backyard easier to enjoy and better suited to your lifestyle.

Which of Cody's picks would you agree with? Drop your answers below!

And if you missed Part 1, go check it out!

Texas fall doesn't last long. Make the most of it before winter shows up. 🍂

After months of intense heat, cooler temperatures are finally giving North Texas homeowners a chance to enjoy their backyards again.

But before you settle into those perfect patio evenings, there are a few things worth checking off your list.

1️⃣ Give your outdoor surfaces some attention. Inspect your stone, pavers, and decking for wear. Clean, repair, and reseal surfaces where appropriate to help protect them from moisture and changing temperatures.

2️⃣ Get your pool ready for cooler weather. Water chemistry and maintenance needs change with the seasons. Check your equipment, adjust your routine, and make sure your pool is prepared for colder temperatures.

3️⃣ Don't overlook drainage. Clear gutters, check drains, and make sure water is moving away from your home and outdoor structures. Texas clay soil and standing water are not a great combination.

4️⃣ Make your backyard comfortable for cooler evenings. A custom outdoor fireplace, fire pit, or patio heater can turn a space you only use in summer into one you enjoy well into the cooler months.

5️⃣ Start planning next year's upgrades NOW. If a pool, pergola, patio, deck, or outdoor kitchen is on your wish list, getting the design and permitting process started this fall can put you ahead of the spring rush.

6️⃣Think about how you want to use your backyard next year. What's missing? More shade? Better seating? A place to entertain? Fall is a great time to evaluate what worked this summer and what you'd love to change.

The best backyards aren't just beautiful when they're finished. They're thoughtfully maintained, designed for the seasons, and built to be enjoyed year after year.

Save this checklist and start checking things off before winter arrives.

And if some of those bigger backyard upgrades are on your list, comment OUTDOOR LIVING. We'd love to help you bring them to life.

Composite or wood? Pavers or concrete? Turf or grass? 👀

We put Cody on the spot with a rapid-fire round of THIS or THAT: Backyard Edition.

When it comes to building a backyard in North Texas, the materials you choose can make a BIG difference in how your space looks, performs, and holds up over time.

Here's where Cody stands:

Composite decking over wood. Less upkeep and better resistance to the Texas sun.

Pavers over stamped concrete. More flexibility with shifting soil and easier individual repairs.

Natural stone over poured concrete. For that elevated, organic look that makes your backyard feel like an extension of your home.

Artificial turf vs. natural grass? Now THAT one depends. Turf has its place, especially around pools and putting greens, but heat, pets, and maintenance expectations matter.

The takeaway? The best material isn't always the cheapest or the prettiest. It's the one that makes sense for how you'll actually use your backyard.

Watch Part 1, tell us which answer you agree or disagree with, and stay tuned for Part 2!

Your backyard shouldn't come with an endless waiting game.

You've picked the design. You've approved the plans. You're already picturing the first dinner outside, the first pool day, and the weekends you'll finally get to spend enjoying your new space.

The last thing you want is a construction project with no clear finish line.

That's why MCM does something most contractors won't.

We put our completion timeline in writing…and put $5,000 behind it.

Our qualifying outdoor living projects are backed by a 90-day completion guarantee. If we miss the agreed deadline under the terms of that guarantee, we pay you $5,000.

Because your time matters. Your plans matter. And the promises made before construction starts should still mean something once the work begins.

After 550+ completed outdoor living projects, we've learned that a great homeowner experience isn't just about delivering a beautiful finished backyard.

It's about giving you confidence in the process that gets you there.

You plan the memories. We'll stand behind the timeline.

10/10/2026

Now THIS is how you take outdoor living to the next level. 🔥

A massive covered patio. A stunning stone fireplace. A fully equipped outdoor kitchen.

And the best part? It all feels like a natural extension of the home.

This finished MCM project brings together everything we love about thoughtful outdoor living design.

It’s one incredible outdoor living area designed for gathering, relaxing, and making memories year-round.

Because luxury isn't just about how a backyard looks. It's about how much more you get to enjoy living in it.

Could you see yourself spending your evenings here?

125+ reviews. 4.8 stars. One reputation we’ve worked hard to earn.

Anyone can tell you they do great work. We’d rather let our homeowners tell you.

After more than 550 completed outdoor living projects, our 4.8-star Google rating represents something much bigger than a number. It represents hundreds of families who trusted MCM with their homes, their investment, and the vision they had for their backyards.

That trust is earned by doing the things we say we’re going to do.
And most importantly, finishing what we start, on time, the way we said we would.

That’s why we back our builds with a 10-year structural warranty and put our timeline in writing with a 90-day completion guarantee.

Because a strong reputation isn’t built with promises…it’s built by keeping them.

This is what water feature dreams are made of...💧

There’s something about moving water that completely changes the feeling of a yard.

The sound. The movement. The way it winds naturally through the landscape and makes the entire space feel a little farther away from everyday life.

This custom creek build is still in progress, but even in slow motion you can already see the vision coming together.

And that’s what we love about water features: they don’t just give you something beautiful to look at.
They create an experience.

Fall might be the most underrated time of year to build a backyard in North Texas.

Most homeowners start thinking about pools, patios, pergolas, and outdoor kitchens when the weather warms up.

But by then, everyone else is thinking about them too.

Starting in the fall can work in your favor for a few big reasons:

🍁Cooler temperatures can make jobsite conditions more manageable and keep work moving efficiently.

🍁Spring rush? Avoided. Start now, and your space can be finished before everyone else starts calling.

🍁Schedules are often more flexible in fall and winter, which can help timelines stay on track.

🍁Building a pool now means it’s ready for the first warm day of spring instead of becoming your spring construction project.

🍁And if your project finishes before the holidays, your backyard can become part of the gathering space instead of a construction zone.

The best time to enjoy your backyard may be spring…but the best time to build it might be fall.

Save this carousel if a backyard project is on your list, and comment OUTDOOR LIVING to start planning yours.
