Dehumidifiers, let’s talk about it.

What you see here is a dehumidifier, but this style is meant for inside your home. This dehumidifier will live a very short life inside a crawlspace.

To explain it professionally

Main issues:
❌ Not sealed or rated for dirt, dust, mold spores, or crawlspace air
❌ Plastic coils & electronics corrode fast in crawlspaces
❌ Drain systems fail (they clog, freeze, or back up)
❌ Short duty cycle – they’re meant for a bedroom or basement, not 24/7 abuse
❌ Fire and electrical risk in a damp, unconditioned environment
❌ Zero air distribution – they dry the air right next to the unit only

Most of these die in 6–18 months, sometimes sooner.

What usually happened

Homeowner bought it at Lowe’s/Home Depot

All sump pump installations are NOT the same.

This one was installed by a very reputable home builder in Gadsden. The home was built roughly a year ago. When the new owner moved in they noticed standing water in the crawlspace. The builder came out and installed what you see in these pictures.

This home builder likely wasn’t trying to be cheap or shady, they just didn’t have the experience and knowledge to properly solve the problem. But we do.

This is a harbor freight sump pump and a Sherwin Williams paint bucket. It wasn’t working and probably never did.
