The Van Dam's Petite Retreat This page is to allow everyone to follow the process of our "tiny" home build, The Van Dam's Petite RETREAT in Gainesboro, TN! It all worked out, so far.

We are building a NOT-SO-TINY, TINY HOUSE. We are moving from Dayton, OH to Gainesboro, TN. We do not know a soul down there and had never been there before we bought our original lot. Sadly, we bought that lot from a snake in the grass but it all worked out because the lot we bought later is AMAZINGLY perfect for us. I mean, check out THIS VIEW!!!!

Well, we went back down to the sauna this weekend. I gotta say, putting up insulation when it is 90 degrees is basically the equivalent of hell!!! It was miserable. We were there three days and this is all we got done. I can’t wait to stuff done that is pretty and not necessary. Oh, and we got the temporary power pole out of my pix!!! Yay for electric, that means AC soon, right???

Chuck Van Dam is wrapping up the electric…they came to do the inspection today but he wasn’t quite ready and we had to send him away. Now it can’t get inspection until next week—-this is Tennessee. The land of the part-time workers (and why it is calling my name!!!). is getting closer every day!!! Of course, did most of the hard stuff!!!

Here in another picture dump from the little progress made this year....we now have more electric and we could support a bigger fridge, which is great because the heat makes it impossible to stay stocked up on ice and nobody likes warm beer!!

Redid the gravel drive! Got the yard all cut down...new fireplace for our deck and a stray dog!!

Pix from this weekend! The plan was to rent a lift and get the siding and soffits done. However, the first lift malfunctioned and the second lift would even drive up our driveway and had to be returned. Then, the weather was supposed to be bad all week so we gave up and just worked on the deck. Before returning the first lift, was able to get the teim around the window. He used four pieces or wood to create the trim and it looks amazing!!! He also sided half the back and cut all of the grass on that hill in front for the first time since 23 have been building .... trust me when I say, that was a chore, I'm sure!!

Well, windows are done and siding is back up. I think that was a good call. I think Chuck Van Dam the Handyman would ag...
