🏘️ 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project #13 | Haile Village Center

Last time, we featured Haile Plantation—the 1,700-acre master-planned community that helped shape southwest Gainesville. This week, we're highlighting the heart of the community.

When Haile Plantation was first conceived, the goal wasn't simply to build neighborhoods—it was to create a place where people could live, work, shop, and gather. Haile Village Center became the focal point of that idea.

Designed according to the principles of Traditional Town Planning, this 50-acre village center was created as the community's walkable hub. eda provided planning, surveying, civil engineering, utility coordination, and permitting services to help bring the project to life.

The development included live/work units, residential neighborhoods, and approximately 160,000 square feet of office and retail space, creating a true mixed-use environment long before that development pattern became common throughout Florida. Today, Haile Village Center remains one of Gainesville's most recognizable destinations, serving as a hub for local businesses, restaurants, events, and the weekly farmers market.
Projects like Haile Village Center demonstrate that great communities aren't just built—they're planned with people in mind.

🏘️ 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project #12 | Haile Plantation Development
Fifty years of work means more than completed projects. It means helping shape the places people call home.
For decades, eda has brought our expertise to Haile Plantation, one of the most significant and recognizable master-planned developments in the Gainesville area. Spanning approximately 1,700 acres, this multi-phased Development of Regional Impact (DRI) blends residential neighborhoods and apartments, commercial hubs like Haile Market Square, and recreation amenities anchored by the golf and country club.
Our involvement began in the early planning stages and continued through multiple phases of development. Over the years, eda provided master planning, surveying, permitting, and civil engineering support, to include drainage and stormwater design, roadway and traffic calming improvements, reclaimed water systems, utility infrastructure, construction support, and more.
And while this feature highlights the community as a whole, stay tuned for next week’s project feature. One of Haile’s most beloved destinations deserves a spotlight of its own— the area that truly established the walkable, mixed-use character that made Haile a model for community development.
What makes this project especially meaningful is its longevity. Haile Plantation wasn’t built all at once—it evolved over time, and eda was there through decades of growth, adaptation, and continued investment.

🐾 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project No. 11 | Pet Paradise Resort

It’s always rewarding to see a project succeed—and even more rewarding to come back and help it grow.

Originally completed in 2008, this upscale pet boarding and daycare facility brought a new level of care to the area—combining climate-controlled indoor suites, grooming services, and thoughtfully designed outdoor play spaces, all within a site carefully planned to remain compatible with its rural surroundings.
eda supported the project from the beginning, providing planning, engineering, and surveying services to guide it through the Special Exception process and development approvals, and delivering the civil design needed to bring the site to life.

Then, more than a decade later, we had the opportunity to return.
In 2020, following annexation into the City of Newberry, eda supported the expansion of the facility—adding new building space, increasing capacity, and navigating a new round of approvals under updated regulations. The expanded site plan was carefully designed to integrate with the original development while maintaining the same buffering, setbacks, and overall character of the property.

Today, Pet Paradise continues to serve the community as a trusted pet care destination—designed to grow alongside the community it serves.

🩺 50 Projects for 50 Years | Project No. 10 | UF Health Proton Therapy Institute Gantry Expansion

Advancing healthcare means designing for precision—not just inside the treatment room, but across every inch of the site.

For the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute's expansion in 2019, eda supported the addition of a new proton accelerator and gantry, expanding the facility’s capacity to deliver highly specialized cancer treatments. Our team provided both surveying and civil engineering services, working within a dense, built environment to carefully coordinate new infrastructure with existing systems.

From detailed topographic and utility surveys—including ground penetrating radar—to the design of grading, stormwater, water, and sewer systems, this project required a high level of accuracy and collaboration. The expansion also included rerouting an existing water main and modifying parking and circulation to support the updated facility.

Projects like this reflect the kind of thoughtful, technical work that happens behind the scenes in complex healthcare environments—where every detail matters, and every improvement supports better outcomes for patients and providers alike.

As we celebrate 50 years, we’re proud to have contributed to projects that strengthen critical infrastructure and expand access to advanced care across Florida.
