Experiencing refrigerant leak? 90% of the time the leak is in the indoor coil. The photo on the left shows a coil after 8 years of service. The oxidation of the coil metals is evident. That rust causes the coil to leak refrigerant. The only solution is replacement. The coil pictured on the right is the ALL ALUMINUM replacement. The all aluminum construction helps thwart the oxidation issue experienced on mixed metal models. The final photo shows the condensation drain and it clearly shows the rusting metals flowing and a indicator that the indoor coil has deteriorated.

So your AC system is leaking refrigerant? Where does it go? 95% of the time it is leaking at the indoor coil also called evaporator coil. If you look at these two coils, the one on the right has been in service just 5 years. As you can see there is rust in its drain pan and you can see corrosion along its copper "U" bends.
The replacement coil on the left is same size and capacity but if you will notice it has no copper "U" bends. All aluminum. This type coil will not rust like the older style and lead to a longer life span.

A new American Standard 5 ton 14 SEER Heat pump system installed for our new good friend Anna Johnson. What makes this job so fascinating? Miss Anna herself!! Miss Anna is 92 and SHARP AS A TACK! She was gracious to share some of the things she has done in her lifetime. Including being in the Hollywood movies back in the late 30's and early 40's!! She was a talented "wrangler" and expert horsewoman. Served in the US Military auxiliary. Danced with Native American Indians in a Wild West show; She and her husband owned a crop dusting business in California and flew out of a dirt air field. Now that air field is LAX!

It was a honor to meet & work for such a interesting lady.
