The City of Galveston has waived all permit fees for recovery work related to Hurricane Beryl. The fees will be waived for storm-related work for 60 days (September 9, 2024) and may be renewed by City Council if needed.

Residents should please keep in mind that permits are required for most repairs except painting. Repairing a fence, roofing, siding and replacing glass panes in an historic district all require a permit.

To have the permit fee waived, the permit seeker may apply for the permit in the office at the public works building, 3015 Market, so please stop by the office during business hours Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Permit seekers will need to specify that it is Hurricane Beryl damage. Permit seekers may also apply online through the portal, please check that the permit is disaster-related for repair or remodel permits.

“The Development Services department stands ready to assist property owners in their recovery efforts,” City Manager Brian Maxwell said.

These old oak floors are beautiful again! Believe it or not, portions of these floors had been covered up. This floor is really showing off again now!

Weekends are for hardwood floors. This 100ish year old oak floor is coming back to life! Spliced in some patches/repairs, sanded and now it’s time to stain!

Pocket doors are a little bit of a dirty word in the construction world (because they’re a pain) but this homeowner wanted to convert a bedroom to a closet and add pocket doors for the doorway from master bedroom to the new closet. We framed in an opening for double pocket doors. Looks awesome and is much more functional than a conventional door!

This bathroom was a mess! In a previous remodel a 2 inch pvc vent pipe was shoved into the old 4 inch cast iron vent, creating a water leak inside the wall. Water had been dripping inside this wall for years, rotting out the subfloor and some studs. To make matters worse, there were electrical connections covered up inside the wall just inches from the water leak! After replacing some studs, adding some floor joists and replacing the subfloor, it’s time to get the plumbing and electrical fixed properly so we can make this bathroom beautiful!

Almost ready to pour some concrete! Never know what you’ll find when you start digging in Galveston! Found this old pull tab Budweiser can in surprisingly good condition under the old slab. Looks like this can was possibly from the mid to late 70’s!
