Throwback to one of our favorite community-focused projects!

In 2021, we partnered with the City of Arlington and RK&K to complete (in 2023) the Ballston Pond retrofit—a project that restored the pond's stormwater management capabilities while creating lasting environmental and community benefits. The improvements included restoring native plant species, enhancing wildlife habitat, improving water quality, retrofitting the existing stormwater infrastructure, and adding a public overlook for residents to enjoy.

Projects like Ballston Pond remind us that successful green infrastructure is built through strong partnerships. We're proud to have worked alongside the Arlington County Virginia – Government and RK&K to deliver a solution that protects the community from flooding and erosion while creating a healthier, more beautiful public space for years to come.

When erosion gets serious, living shorelines offer a proven, natural way to protect and restore the coast. Using native plants and natural materials, these projects attenuate waves, stabilize soils, and help rebuild natural tidal habitats—without hardening the coast. Nature-based solutions protect property, improve coastal health, and create shorelines that can adapt and recover over time.

We're making great progress on one of our largest stream restoration projects in Harford County!

Our team has now completed several reaches of this multi-phase project, bringing us a few steps closer to restoring a healthier, more resilient stream system. Working on active farmland presents unique challenges, and we're grateful for the cooperation of the local landowners who have partnered with us throughout the project. Their collaboration helps us keep the work moving while respecting the surrounding properties and agricultural operations.

Projects like this showcase what EQR does best: adapting to different environments, building strong relationships with stakeholders, and delivering complex restoration projects that create lasting environmental benefits.

The Wolf Creek Restoration Project in Roanoke County, Virginia is officially complete! 🌿💧

We are proud to have worked alongside Roanoke County and Freese and Nichols to restore this important section of the Wolf Creek Greenway. This project focused on improving stream stability, reducing erosion, and protecting water quality while enhancing the natural habitats and processes in the creek. Work included stream channel reconstruction and realignment, bank stabilization, grade control installation, and habitat improvements designed to help the creek handle storm events more effectively and reconnect with its floodplain. In simple terms—this restoration helps Wolf Creek flow more naturally, reduces sediment going downstream, and supports healthier habitat for aquatic life, all while protecting a valued community greenway.

We appreciate the strong partnership with Roanoke County, Virginia and the technical guidance from Freese and Nichols, Inc., as well as the hard work of our field crews and project team who brought this project to completion safely and successfully.

Safety always comes first. At EQR, our work isn’t always easy, and the environments we work in can be unpredictable. That’s why safety is a top priority—through training, communication, and looking out for each other every day in the field. A strong safety culture protects our crews, strengthens our work, and helps ensure every project is completed the right way.

Fall is planting season 🌱

Our EQR Natives team supports both ecological restoration efforts and landscaping projects for local government agencies and private companies and landowners—creating landscapes that are resilient, low-maintenance, and designed to support local ecosystems. Fall conditions give native plants the best chance to establish and thrive, setting projects up for long-term success. Now is the perfect time to plan fall planting projects that improve public spaces, manage stormwater, and build healthier landscapes for the communities they serve.

Fixing streams near schools and neighborhoods protects more than the water—it protects our future. Restored streams help prevent erosion and flooding, improve water quality, and create safer outdoor environments for families and students. These projects strengthen communities and the environment today as well as in the long-term.

🚧 Big things are happening at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary! 🌿🌊

Construction is underway on the largest environmental restoration project in the Sanctuary's history—over 7,000 LF of stream restoration and 530 LF of living shoreline that will help protect the Patuxent River, restore tidal and nontidal habitat, and enhance the resilience of the Sanctuary’s ecosystems and infrastructure for the next several decades.

Shout out to our project partners – The Friends of Jug Bay at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve-MD, and BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc.
