Spring is a great time to check out a stream in all the spring glory 🌿

Last fall, our EQR Natives team wrapped up the landscaping and planting for a stream restoration and stormwater project in Fairfax, VA—and now the results are showing! Native plants are coming to life, adding color, and beauty throughout the site.

But these plants do more than look good—they help hold stream banks and floodplain soils in place, protect water quality, and provide food and habitat for local wildlife.

It’s the end of the month and we’re still thinking about how great the EQR family picnic was! ☀️

We had a blast with our apple pie contest, tie-dye t-shirts, and even some animal fun. It was awesome to see everyone come out, spend time together, and enjoy the day with family and friends. Thanks to everyone who joined us at Sandy Point Park!

Another project complete in York County, VA! 🎉

Near an elementary school and neighborhood, our team restored about 1,100 feet of stream and built a stormwater system designed to slow down runoff and improve water quality.

Designed by Brown and Caldwell, This project helps stop erosion, stabilize the stream, and protect surrounding properties—all while planting native vegetation to support long-term health.

Spring planting season is in full swing, and our landscaping team at EQR Natives is hard at work creating beautiful, sustainable spaces that thrive. This year, we’re putting a special focus on native plants — plant species that naturally belong in our local ecosystem. Why?

Because native plants do more than just look great:
🌾 They support local pollinators like bees and butterflies
💧 Require less watering and maintenance
🌎 Improve soil health and resilience
🪶 Provide essential habitat for local wildlife

By choosing native plants, we’re helping landscapes thrive naturally while reducing environmental impact — one project, one plant, one season at a time. Here’s to a greener, more sustainable spring! 🌼

We’re excited to share the completion of a stream restoration and stormwater management project in Newport News, VA! Our team restored about 860 feet of stream channel near East Governor Drive and Riverview Farm Park using natural channel design techniques. We also added a constructed wetland to help manage stormwater before it flows into the stream. This project helps reduce erosion, protect nearby properties, and improve overall water quality, making a lasting impact on the surrounding community.

Great work by everyone involved, including our partners at Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. and the City of Newport News, VA - Government Department of Engineering!

We’re also excited to share that we’ll be working on an upcoming living shoreline and wetland project at Jug Bay—helping to enhance habitat, improve resilience, and protect this valuable ecosystem for years to come.
