The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center is a 200,000-square-foot expansion of the California Science Center in Los Angeles, California. Breaking ground in June of 2022, this expansion nearly doubles the Science Centerโs educational space to house air and space exhibits, which include the Space Shuttle Endeavor in its vertical launch position โ as if its ready to return for another mission to space. ๐
Acting as the design-assist mechanical contractor for the project, one of the most complex aspects of the work involved was the fabrication and installation of a 120,000-pound double-wall roof duct system. With just one month allocated for fabrication and a week for crane placement, our team successfully ramped up production by 100% to meet the tight deadline.
"This project was truly remarkable," Jesse Jong, Senior Project Manager, said. "It's more than a feat of engineering and construction โ it's about honoring the past with a unique space that will leave a lasting impression for generations to come."
