Hi All,
Did you know that if you have a Tankless Hot Water Heater like a Navien or Rinnai or one of the many other brands available, that they need to be serviced every 1 to 3 years, to clean or replace the water and intake air filters, and most importantly to "Descale" the heat exchanger? Failing to do so will extremely lessen the longevity of your VERY expensive boiler! If taken care of, it is possible to get 20 to 30 years of lifespan out of a quality unit! So, if you have one of these, and you need it serviced or repaired, please give me a call at 216-470-9915, or message me here, and I'll be happy to set up an appointment for you!

Thanks,
Mike Chapin

Hi All,
I am looking for an apprentice/helper, preferably a younger person that would like to learn the plumbing trade, They would be required to have there own vehicle and a clean valid drivers license to be able to get to my house, to ride to the jobsites with me, or strait to the jobsite themselves if needed. At first they will be trained to do finish work on new kitchens and bathrooms, with the occasional rough plumbing installations (waste and water line work). This will start out as somewhat of a part time job, as I cannot guarantee 40 hours until the point at which this person can be sent out on jobs by themselves. The pay rate will be dependent on your level of mechanical inclination and how quickly you can learn and be sent out on your own.
If you, or anyone you know may be interested please contact me here on Facebook via instant messenger and we can discuss things further!
Thanks,
Mike

Hi All,
As the owner/operator, or as my dad used to say "Chief, Cook and Bottle Washer", of Chapin Plumbing, I would like to (to the best of my ability), help out ANY government employees that are affected by this government shutdown! Although I DO believe in what our President is trying to accomplish in securing this countries borders, I also can sympathize ....and have compassion for those that will not be collecting a paycheck during this shutdown, Therefore I vow to to help in however I can within my professional capabilities, so if YOU are, or you know somebody locally that is a government employee, that has a plumbing EMERGENCY repair needed, please have them give me a call at 216-470-9915, ....and I will do my best to come up with a plan, whereas I will extend them Credit on my labor (and possibly materials) until after the shutdown is over and they collect their backpay!
I urge my other contractor and small business friends to do the same!
Note that I will require documentation proving that you are a government employee and are being affected by the shutdown.
Sincerely,
Mike Chapin

Hi All,
I just wanted to make people aware of a change coming soon!
For most people, this will have very little impact, other then you can expect to pay about 20% more for your next Hot Water Tank replacement.
The people this WILL impact greatly, are those whom have a water heater installed in an area with limited space. ...The reason for this is that the new standards will make the new tanks approximately 2 inches bigger in diameter and 1 inch taller, which could be a BIG problem in tight situations! However...They did make provisions for this situation, they have made available a tank with some special electronics that makes the tank compliant to the new standards, but not only is the price of this tank more then double of the standard tank, you will also have to provide an electrical outlet to provide power to the unit, which could add to the cost if one is not available already.
So in conclusion, if you have a hot water tank that is located in a small closet or tight location, and your existing water heater is over 6 years old, you might want to consider having a new tank installed now, or in the very least to buy a replacement tank now and store it in the garage/basement so that you have it when you need it.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi All,
As you all know, here in the Northeast we are in for another cold spell which have our temps dipping into the sub's again for the next week or so. So here are some tips you can do to try to keep those pipes from freezing and bursting!

First try to leave both the hot and cold water running in any problem fixtures (many people mistakingly think that as long as you have the cold running that the pipes won't freeze, but that only keeps the cold water moving, so the hot also needs to be on)

If you have an area that has frozen in the past, get some warmth to that area, you can do this in several ways... Try opening up any plumbing cabinet doors to let warm ambient air into the space, get space heaters into the area, (Please be careful and make sure heaters have overheat and fall over safeties, and that they are not sitting on or blowing on flamible materials).
Make sure any installed pipe heat tape is plugged in and working properly.
If you haven't already (this should be done every year before the first major freeze) DISCONNECT ANY HOSES from outside hose bibs, including any inside your garage... The reason for this is that the water that is trapped inside the hose will freeze and can and usually will burst your frostproof sillcocks!

If your pipes run in your attic, stick your head up there and if it feels like it might be getting to cold keep the attic doors open to try to get some of your houses heat up there.... This also applies to crawl spaces.... Carefully use electric space heaters if needed.

Last... If an area does freeze, if you can get at the pipe, run your hand along the pipe and you can usually feel the difference in temperature where it is frozen, using a blow dryer or (carefully) a heat gun, get heart on the pipe ASAP, the quicker you get to it the less chance it will burst.... Make sure you have the faucet turned on to the fixture that is frozen, this will help get the water moving over the heart gets applied!

Good luck!
