Texas mechanical project teams have a recent code-reference update worth knowing. Effective September 1, 2026, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation updated the code editions adopted by reference under the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors rules from the 2021 editions to the 2024 editions of the IRC, IMC, IFGC, and UMC.

The practical takeaway is not that every project in Texas now follows one identical code path. Local adoption, the authority having jurisdiction, permit timing, and the contract documents can still affect what applies to a specific project.

For GCs, owners, engineers, and mechanical contractors, the better move is to confirm the applicable requirements early enough for the design, submittal, and permitting conversations to stay aligned.

Meet Jason, part of NTD's outside service sales team. His path through HVAC includes field installation, service, operations, management, and sales, so the conversations he has with building owners and facility managers are grounded in what it takes to maintain, repair, and replace equipment in the real world.

Clocked in, Jason is focused on understanding the facility, asking the right questions, and helping customers build service and maintenance plans around the equipment they have. His field background gives him a practical eye for the smaller details that can shape a much bigger service or replacement decision.

Clocked out, Jason shifts quickly into dad mode with his seven-year-old daughter and one-year-old son. When he gets outside, you may find him playing disc golf, camping, or finding a quiet place to unplug, especially around the lakes and forests he grew up enjoying in East Texas.

Every year, once the summer rush starts to ease, NTD brings our field team together for our We Survived the Summer Party. This year, we had an even bigger reason to celebrate: 25 years of NTD Mechanical.

The summer months ask a lot from the people behind our projects. Long days, demanding schedules, changing priorities, and plenty of moments when the team has to adjust quickly.

This celebration is our opportunity to recognize the people who carried that work all summer long — and the families and support systems behind them who make those long seasons possible.

This year was also a chance to look back on 25 years of NTD and the people who have helped build it along the way.

25 years. Countless projects. One incredible team.

You may also be inheriting years of HVAC service history, aging equipment, deferred maintenance, controls issues, and capital needs that aren’t always obvious during a general walk-through.

A broader property condition report can provide valuable insight, but the level of mechanical detail can vary. A focused HVAC assessment takes a closer look at the systems themselves and can help facility teams establish a baseline for maintenance, repairs, replacements, and future budgeting.

It doesn’t replace broader property due diligence—it adds another layer of information for the team responsible for operating and maintaining the building.

Bring the family for candy, games, food trucks, and the Haunted Hall at Naaman Forest High School. The Trunk-or-Treat will take place in the student parking lot, with the event moving indoors in case of inclement weather.
